1. The old "stop playing identity politics" gambit. You're right. We can't afford to fall for it.

Chasing an seven million WWC Obama voters who allegedly switched to trump is a way to blow millions.

We should spend that money on combating repug cheating, vote suppression, gerrymandering and Russian bots.

of us.

Dems have promised incremental change and delivered slightly less.

Republicans always promise to go big, and by god, they do it, even if it will kill us all.

When will Democrats learn that you don't win elections by insulting and neglecting your base and trying to convince people who hate you to vote for you?

And the funny thing is, those people who hate Democrats respect someone who stands up for progressive values consistently than someone who mouths empty platitudes and then ignores deep structural problems once in office.

it makes no sense to me, but a fair number of people told me during the primaries they would vote for Bernie if he won primaries but Trump if Hillary won.

Apart from whether Bernie will win again, that should tell you that the way to a swing voters heart isn't through aping conservatives, or sticking with empty platitudes that a centrist Republican or member of any party for that matter could say.

for us to stop playing "identity politics", which translates as let's stop talking about black, brown, Asian-American, lgbtq, womens' and progressive white issues and concentrate on getting WWC voters.

In other words, screw all our base loyal to the Dem party for decades and go after whites who voted for trump.

their various scams?

It's not either identity politics OR everyone else, it's both/and.

Identity politics fail when you don't show how it is part of the big picture, and also when it amounts to lip service and tokenism.

As for centrism, you won't find many on this board on board for that either.

We're mostly on the same page but for some reason you want to argue with me.

thar was 2016. The constant vitriol showed me how far the party has abandoned its own core historical values. FDR is rolling in his grave

For so many 'not progressive enough' translates to 'not supporting my guy'.

Platform does not matter, finally cobbling together the first(pseudo) health care bill does not matter. But most importantly the fact that most Americans and most voting members of the Democratic Party are not socialists does not matter.

It is not about being progressive enough but about who you support.

And I blow a gasket every time I hear one of these 'progressives' claim they are the base. Come on down to Florida, or Louisiana, Georgia, North Carolina. I guarantee you white socialist are not our base. I am a white guy. I am not the base of the Democratic Party in Florida.

I think we agree.

Loyal white Dems are part of the base and their vote goes in the Democratic Party column.

When told we need to hand our Democratic Party over to an outsider, we need to bring up this information. I was well aware of this from the get go, and to have to listen to 6 months of fabrication to destroy our party from supposed partners/allies has been very frustrating.

I hope the Democratic Party listens to the numbers and preserves in the purposeful destruction of our party.
