When Sanders says 'one last time,' he means it

SELMA – Most candidates for elective office try to come up with catchy political phrases, but State Sen. Hank Sanders doesn’t need any.

He’s still a year away from what could well be his final political hurrah, but he sounds like he’s ready right now to bid adieu to rubber chicken fundraisers and political promises that can fall flat fast.

With more than 1,000 newspaper columns already behind him, he recently penned a new one titled “One Last Time” explaining his reasons for wanting to eventually return to “civilian life.”

Age could be one of the major reasons he’s pondering “one more” term. He’ll be 75 in October and, adding four more years with his next anticipated victory in 2018 would be pushing him toward 80.

What a great guy. Long gone from Alabama, but there are good memories! He's one of them.
