In 2016, The Washington Post reported that cases brought by the Drug Enforcement Administration over the distribution of painkillers had dropped even as the opioid epidemic was claiming thousands of American lives each year. Now, a Post and “60 Minutes” joint investigation explains how the DEA’s ability to go after opioid distributors was weakened at a critical time.
