A father saved his six-year-old son from human traffickers when he bumped into them in a shopping centre.
Cheng Jiafu was kidnapped from his family home nine months ago, from his family home in the Chinese region of Qingxin, where he was being cared for by his elder sister.
His father, Chen Zhonghong was at work at the time.
After the boy was taken by a stranger a huge search was launched for his missing son. It came up empty handed.

(3,613 posts)Sons are a huge business. Apparently you have to pay a large dowry if you have a daughter, so it is cheaper to buy a stolen boy, raise him with the daughter, have them marry, and have grandkids to take care of you when you are old.
If you ever wondered how fucked up China is, you will know after watching this.
Arranged marriage is a crime against humanity and drives all sorts of injustice.

Dowry?
If there is a shortage of women to marry, then they should require a premium price to woo rather than a premium price to get rid of.

(35,300 posts)However, it often continues long after circumstances change. Perhaps those cultural traits are neutral and it doesn't matter if they continue. Perhaps they're maladaptions and constitute a net loss to the community in some way.
That doesn't mean that they're not still traditional, and people won't hold to them stubbornly because it's part of their identity or makes them feel good or different.
At some point, such maladaptative traits either lead to the culture's relative downfall or they are changed. Sometimes the changes are good and help, sometimes they're driven by alternative "traditions" or views and are also maladapative.

(51,550 posts)China basically has the same punishment for stealing a child as for stealing sunglasses. That is messed up.
