Here's the real and terrifying reason Trump is pushing for a coup in Venezuela
Michael Fox, Independent Media Institute MICHAEL FOX, INDEPENDENT MEDIA INSTITUTE - COMMENTARY 19 FEB 2019 AT 21:07 ET
On Monday, President Donald Trump met with the Venezuelan community in Miami, Florida. His speech represented more than just disdain for the countrys president Nicolas Maduro; it was a sign of what may really be behind his increasing rhetoric against Venezuela: Reelection. 2020.
Florida will be a key swing state in next years elections. Trumps overtures to both the Venezuelan and Cuban-American communities were clear.
The days of socialism and communism are numbered, not only in Venezuela but in Nicaragua and in Cuba as well, Trump told the crowd.
But Trumps push on Venezuela is not just about winning over key votes in Florida. Its about sidelining progressives, distracting from domestic policies, and driving the U.S. into a war that could easily lift him into a second term.

(6,384 posts)I just read this article by Lee Camp - I don't know him; we don't have his show in Australia, but what he says makes a heap of sense to me, and ties in with all the anti-socialist coups I recall in Latin America over decades.

I don't think Maduro has the political skills of Chavez, but he's a long way from the arch-fiend the Trump administration is painting him.
It's Guiado who scares me; another in the long line of elites who've ruled Latin America for centuries and bled their people in the process.
