For those candidates who are running in the States or for President, I think attacking the current resident on what he thinks is his strong suite, the economy, would be wise. This applies for all elections state or federal, imo. Let me know if it belongs in the Primary threads.

Along with climate change and racial justice, economic development is America’s biggest challenge over the next few decades. Inclusive growth is a must, or else our society will fall apart.

But job growth isn’t being spread evenly across the land. Most of the new jobs have been located in a just a few dozen large and dynamic cities, leaving slower-growing cities, small towns and rural areas — where about half of Americans live — far behind.

Trump’s appeal to the despairing

Anyone who’s been paying attention to the political map will recognize that the growth is mostly occurring in places that vote for Democrats, while the stagnation is mostly in places that vote for Republicans.

Donald Trump has appealed to those who are the most fearful, the most resentful and the most despairing, but the situation hasn’t gotten any better since his election. Rural America is older, sicker, poorer and more dependent upon state aid than it was before.

1. tRump is all focused on base, so if his base is hurting he can convince suckers it's not his fault

He just says "socialist rats are blocking my agenda in the House", and they eat it up.

Minimum wage $15, reversing tax giveaways to richies, and universal healthcare will all help bring back small towns and rural locations.

So will assistance for students and graduates like some degree of debt forgiveness, because they will not feel the need to go to high growth cities to earn the big bucks to pay off loans.

As will job retraining and help switching sectors to modern sustainable future-growth-oriented operations.

3. Forest, meet trees! The blocking of immigrants and tariff idiocy by Trump and his minions....

is having a major effect here, one not mentioned in the article. Farmers are desperate for cheap yet reliable labor while getting hammered at the same time by Trumpy's tariff stunts (oh, no, the Chinese pay all the tariffs. And just wait, they'll be back soon to buy all those soybeans and frozen pork, just wait and see!).

What a fool he is. And that makes the rural farmers and those who they support with farm $ even more foolish. Let them all file for bankruptcy.....and let God sort then out, I say! Hah!
