US lawmakers call for US opposition to Bolivia ouster

'Unconstitutional removal of an elected president is unacceptable,' say House reps co-signing letter to Secretary of State

ANKARA

Fourteen U.S. House members sent a letter to the secretary of state calling on the administration of President Donald Trump to oppose a recent ouster of the former Bolivian president, who was recently forcibly removed from office.

"Rather than supporting a military coup, our government should make it clear that the unconstitutional removal of an elected president is unacceptable, as is the persecution of individuals based on their race or political affiliations," Congressman Hank Johnson said in the letter co-signed by 13 others to Mike Pompeo

"This Administration is once again showing that it has nothing but disdain for democracy and human rights, when they get in the way of President Trump's agenda," it added, urging support for "democracy and human rights in Bolivia".

It encouraged the Trump Administration to reverse course and push for restoration of constitutional rule in the Latin American country, including the holding of new free and fair elections.

should be appalled at what is happening in THIS country. "Free and fair elections" for Bolivia? How about that for the US? We have an administration run wild, worldwide with the full support of the gop. Set an example to others by cleaning up the mess right here at home. So much damage has been done in three years, it is disgraceful. How DARE these representatives show outrage at another country, when this country is in the worst mess it has ever seen? Do your damn jobs, do what you were elected to do. Represent your own constituents. While you are concerning yourselves with Bolivia, there happens to be an impeachment hearing in progress. Almost daily another rock is overturned and something from this administration slithers out into the daylight. I guess it does not concern you, since you have already made up your minds to vote against impeachment. To HELL with the facts and truth. tRump is (R) that is the only thing that counts. Sadly, he was the best and brightest which you prove daily.

These Congress people are all Democrats, and they already have a very clear idea where they stand on Republican policy all over the world.

They have the House of Representatives well focused on Trump, and working hard to bring the information to the public. They have the filthy McConnell-controlled Senate and the utterly corrupt Senate Republicans ready to slap down impeachment when it goes to the Senate.

Democrats have been doing very well, considering how hard it has been to get access to the evidence, due to Trump's interference in all aspects of investigation, and his ability to dominate so much of what gets published by what should be the people's watchdog, the "news" media.

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

And South America's right wingers are Torquemada-style injustice in the flesh (hence the GOPee's affinity for them).

This needs magnitudes more attention in the American news sphere. Still waiting on those in power to even say the word “coup”. Add it to the pile of the United States standing out on the wrong side of history in the last three years.

because it only reinforces them.

Even repeating the talking points in debunking them can have that effect.
