Republicans devote $20m and 50,000 people to efforts to restrict voting

Donald Trump’s campaign and national Republicans are pumping millions of dollars into efforts to restrict voting and aggressively fight Democratic efforts to make it easier to cast a ballot during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Republican National Committee has allocated $20m so far to oppose Democratic lawsuits across the country seeking to expand voting. Republicans are also seeking to recruit up to 50,000 people in 15 key states to serve as poll watchers and challenge the registration of voters they believe are ineligible, according to the New York Times.

The 2020 election will be the first time in nearly three decades that national Republicans will be involved in such a program. After the RNC was sued over intimidating minority voters in New Jersey in the early 1980s, they agreed to a federal court order not to engage in “ballot security” efforts. The order expired in 2018.

1. Early voting and mail in voting (except in FL) is the way to go folks.

If you aren't at the polling place you aren't risking your life and you won't have to put up with the asses. Also, the rw asses will most likely skip early voting, at least they have here in the past. They show up for the main event so if you can avoid that - do. Of course, if you live in a red state that's trying to kill you, and they stop early voting and vote by mail - do whatever is necessary to vote. My plan, if this happens, is to wear a mask & gloves, bring a folding chair, jug of water, plenty of snacks and a book to read. I will be there for the duration and vote!

The r's have tried to stop early voting often, but so far have failed. Hope they don't stop it this year because it's the only that to vote here that is safe and where you know your vote counted.

2. This is terrifying

Republicans are going all out to make it harder to vote. They can't run on Trump's record and their biggest fear is losing power. But they have a half a billion dollar campaign war chest.
If we have a fair election in November and a peaceful transition of power I'll be amazed.
