Kids dying in the crossfire is an American problem

The worst thing that should happen to a kid in the summer should be bleeding and scabby knees, not bleeding out.
Two weeks ago in Canton, King Pleasant, a sweet-faced 6-year-old who loved the "Black Panther" was shot and killed by an 11-year-old neighbor who apparently found a handgun.

In July, toddler twins Ace and Arcel Lucas of Canton were shot by unidentified men while sleeping in their home, and Ace is dead because of it.
Mar'Viyah Jones of Akron recently became the sixth child in that city - this year - to be shot and killed.
Six? How is that even possible?
On Sept. 10, 6-year-old Mar'Viyah was a passenger in a vehicle when she was caught in a crossfire. She died last week from her injuries. One of the shooters was the driver of the car which contained Jones.
Who does such a thing with kids in the car? What did he imagine the consequences might be?

In Akron, 8-year-old Mikayla Pickett died on Aug. 17 when someone began shooting up a birthday party she was attending with her babysitter. A 14-year-old also was shot but survived.
Who in the hell brings a gun to a birthday party? What kind of pathology causes a person to think that a weapon might be needed at such an event?

After college I knew a lot of people who hunted, engaged in target practice, or just thought having guns around was either a manly, cool, or responsible thing.
Not once did any of them--when their wives left them, when they got in car crashes, when insulted--pick up a gun and take one step towards the exit of their house. Much less actually take the gun with them.
