'My *Republican Friends, Neighbors, CoWorkers: What They Told Me After Joe Won, *In Blue State NY'

Daily Kos, Nov. 8, 2020.

As the headline says, I have Republican friends, co-workers, neighbors and so on. I got added to one of their message lists, and they had quite the reaction when I celebrated Biden’s win.

I don't personally know everyone on the list but they are all White and I am reasonably sure that each one has at least an undergraduate degree. Here are their reactions to me specifically:

"Did you forget your white too?

Food Stamps are meant to be be for people who are down on their luck temporarily . . . they shouldn’t be a lifestyle.

We have black in us too,

That’s why I have rhythm.

Che and Castro Socialism is here.

So people are supposed to be penalized for being financially successful?"...

Russia is the whitest country in the world-- "The Caucasians"-- and you know those damned Democrats are NOT all white.

"Notice how N. Korea is all quite now! He beat them."
" All those foreigners will stay away. Trump show'd them we mean business no free ride."
"All those people kneeling at Pro Sports, which I will never watch again."
"We quit shitting on the flag!"

These are the things the Trumpers have said to me post Biden win.

open up, and protect the free press to report the facts. No more conglomerates stifling competition, and creating perception by distorting the truth. Bust 'em up.

and friends there I've met many other people and heard a wide range of views.

Raging bigotry and bias is a bit rarer there, but not unknown. Certainly not limited to 'Deliverance Land' as I was just told.

Two friends in MD. m. brothers from upstate New York; ok, regular guys but red as can be, bikers.. Another friend wouldn't believe there were guys like this- rednecks any place but the south- no matter what evidence I gave.

He was a mashup of very real people and very real views.

And they are still out there.

As for the rural parts upstate, might as well be in deliverance.

If this admin. doesn't do something to revive the Fairness Doctrine I'll be more than disappointed.

Hate Radio and Fox have caused mass damage in 30+ yrs., Hate Internet too.

And they choose to believe it because it makes them feel good/it’s what they want to hear.

And they can keep reinforcing it in their white-wing echo chambers.

They love, and will always choose to uncritically believe, anything bad they hear about Democrats (anti-white, anti-success, coming to take your money, eating your babies, etc.)

It’s why Trump got 70 million votes. People have been trained that if someone tells them what they want to hear, it must be true.

I’m reminded of one of the Trumpie traits that still angers me: their idol’s love affair with Vladimir Putin and their indifference to Russian meddling in our elections.

My mother’s brother was a West Point graduate, a Cold Warrior, and (pre-Dubya) pretty conservative. He was also a hard-core Republican and worked hard to elect Republicans.

One of the reasons he disliked Democrats not so long ago was because of what he perceived as their softness towards the old Soviet Union and their clandestine activities.

My uncle remained pretty conservative to the end of his life. I think he would not only have been appalled but outraged at Donnie’s deference to Putin’s Kremlin and the Republicans’ indifference to Russian meddling in our politics.

As far as I’m concerned, Trumpie cultists HAVE FORFEITED THEIR RIGHT TO QUESTION OUR PATRIOTISM.

think that the billionaire class has the same economic interests as the rest of us. IMO, anyone netting under 400k yearly income would take major hits to their lifestyle if Trumpie/Teabagger ideas of killing student aid, Medicare, the ACA, and social security went into effect.

The REAL Republican economic agenda is a rich man’s game. The rest of us would be too broke to afford it.
