2 resign at Penn State following hazing incident!

Freshman Asya Trowell, 18, of Owings Mills, Md., told police in the early morning hours on April 4, members of Omega Essence -- an auxiliary group unofficially affiliated with Omega Psi Phi fraternity -- repeatedly slapped and kicked her in the stomach, among other things, for roughly three hours.

of slapping a young woman around and kicking her in the stomach?

I'd have to drink so much I'd be in a blackout before someone else in a room with me could get away with doing it even once. And there's not enough alcohol on the planet to lubricate my ethics enough that I'd watch someone do this repeatedly for an hour, let alone three.

Makes me realize how little I missed when I chose not to pledge.

2. Normal Geek organizations do not use such tactics in any event, hazing or otherwise.

I was in a fraternity when hazing was said to be at it's peak, I don't recall anything that would do physical harm to anyone. We did have a kid run down the street in his underwear on a cold January night and had to go chase him with warm clothes.

It is not in the best interest of an organization to abuse their member to the point of harm or that they will not remain in the organization.

Most of the hazing we did was fun and games type of stuff, the underwear incident was where we had all the pledges strip to their underwear and march them into a small room, toss them their clothes and turn out the lights telling them they had 10 minutes to get dressed.

We did push-ups and other exercises but not to the point of harming anyone.

Alcohol consumption was excessive but nothing was forced on anyone, we over indulged on a near daily basis at the time. Most of the activities around the pledging the fraternity were about team building, no one was to be left out and pick your brother up when he fell down type of stuff. It was designed to drive the idea of caring for each other and to endear the participants to each other and the organization. Today, 30 plus years latter, most of us are still actively involved, I designed the new house when the old one burnt to the ground. We have several annual events where we all still participate.

Greek life is supposed to be about enjoying college and life.

3. This group was an "auxiliary group" - in other words a "little sister" group to a fraternity

I'm not sure where the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc. (http://www.nphchq.org/membership.htm) stands on this issue, but National Panhellenic Council (https://www.npcwomen.org/about/official-documents.aspx) has denounced participation by its members in auxiliary groups for fraternities.
