ProPublica Announces 2 Paid Summer Internships w Ida B. Wells Society For Investigative Reporting

May 7, 2021, ProPublica.

ProPublica announced on Friday 2 paid internship opportunities in partnership with the Ida B. Wells Society for Investigative Reporting, which is dedicated to increasing the number of reporters and editors of color in investigative journalism. Interns will gain experience and mentorship from the award-winning investigative newsroom while covering topics related to abuses of power and betrayals of public trust.

This remote internship opportunity is targeted at students and recent graduates from underrepresented communities and is only open to members of the Ida B. Wells Society, which is free to join and open to everyone.

ProPublica will provide the two interns with mentorship from ProPublica’s staff on investigative fundamentals, as well as the opportunity to work on projects. The engagement reporting intern will work with mentors on ProPublica’s engagement team to crowdsource stories for investigative projects. This role will involve managing a callout, sifting through incoming tips and leading an outreach campaign, among other responsibilities.

The data intern will work on high-impact investigative projects and be involved in all facets of data journalism: requesting, collecting, creating and querying databases and finding the stories hidden within them.

The deadline to apply for the ProPublica internships is 5 p.m. Eastern on May 28. Learn more about these positions and application details by clicking here. Students, recent graduates and postgraduates who come from underrepresented communities and HBCUs and other minority-serving institutions are strongly encouraged to apply. The Ida B. Wells Society announced other summer internship opportunities earlier this spring in partnership with the New York Times, Miami Herald, USA Today and Associated Press.
