Alabama Doctor: Witnesses Patients Dying From Covid Asking For The Vaccine At The End

Daily Kos, July 21, 2021. The Hill has a story out today of an Alabama doctor who has witnessed multiple patients dying of COVID-19 to please give them the vaccine.
An Alabama doctor is opening up about her experience treating those hospitalized for the coronavirus amid a resurgence of cases, saying dying patients are asking her to vaccinate them. One of the last things they do before they're intubated is beg me for the vaccine. I hold their hand and tell them that I'm sorry, but it's too late," Brytney Cobia, a hospitalist at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, wrote on Facebook this week.
A few days later when I call time of death, I hug their family members and I tell them the best way to honor their loved one is to go get vaccinated and encourage everyone they know to do the same, Cobia added.
I really do not know what to say to that. Most of my empathy for anti-vaxxers and COVID-19 deniers dying has dried up long ago. I suppose I should feel a modicum of pity that there are some who want to suddenly be vaccinated when near death. It sounds a lot better than the arrogant assholes we have read about from South Dakota who screamed abuse at doctors and nurses that they did not have COVID-19. Give me hydrochloroquine they screamed! And the only thing that got them to stop screaming was to be intubated.
But as the article points out, Alabama has one of the worst rates of complete vaccination for COVID-19. And like many other red states, the citizens of Alabama have been baptized into the Death Cult of Trumpism. And what they have done is made a choice...

(37,312 posts)but that choice was based on false premises.
The responsibility lies with those peddling misinformation.

(41,113 posts)for the propaganda and lies they've spread, and the millions of lives lost.
A global human tragedy which could have been prevented, an affirmation of human nature's worst and darkest side. Fortunately we're also seeing the strength and power of the survival instinct and the eternal need for progress.
It's understandable why belief in Old Testament justice and the Wrath of God were valued given the misery caused by tyrants, plagues and droughts in earlier times. From one who isn't strongly religious.

(8,361 posts)He said he will not ever receive the vaccine because the city, state, and federal governments have not been forthcoming about it.
I should try and post the clip, it is a clear case of a thoroughly brainwashed man. Sad and dangerous at the same time.
This father, former baseball coach, small business owner and hunter caught COVID and then developed pneumonia.
"Before you got sick," Begnaud asked Roe, "if you would have had a chance to get the vaccine and prevent this, would you have taken the vaccine?"
"No," Roe said. "I would have gone through this, yes sir Don't shove it down my throat. That's what local, state, federal administration is trying to do - shove it down your throat."
"What are they shoving," Begnaud asked, "the science?"
"No they're shoving the fact that that's their agenda," Roe said, "their agenda is to get you vaccinated."
"You know who Mr. Scalise is?" Begnaud asked Roe.
"I know who Steve Scalise is very well," Roe said.
Roe, who is a Republican, had not heard that Congressman Scalise had stepped into the forefront Tuesday as a vaccine proponent. Begnaud asked him to read the congressman's statement.
"He thinks it's safe and effective," Roe said.
"And what's your reaction?" Begnaud asked.
"Not proven," Roe said.
"But does his opinion change yours?" Begnaud asked.
"No, it does not," Roe said.

(6,066 posts)19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
I remember this story from my childhood. I remember most seeing the smug satisfaction people got from knowing the rich man wasn't ever going to get out of Hell and his brothers were going there too.

(41,113 posts)One rich person I know committed many evils in disguise, never cared about the pain they caused or repented before death. The way of some.
