Bombshell revelations emerged on Friday that former President Donald Trump told the top officials at the United States Department of Justice to declare the results of the 2020 election "corrupt" in a desperate bid to cling to power.
Many legal experts, including conservative attorney George Conway, think that this is a clear violation of 18 U.S.C. § 610, which details actions that constitute illegal coercion of political activity.
Specifically, the law states that "it shall be unlawful for any person to intimidate, threaten, command, or coerce, or attempt to intimidate, threaten, command, or coerce, any employee of the Federal Government... to engage in, or not to engage in, any political activity, including, but not limited to, voting or refusing to vote for any candidate or measure in any election, making or refusing to make any political contribution, or working or refusing to work on behalf of any candidate."

(13,903 posts)and the Democratic leadership can't very well order their political opponent arrested and jailed.
I bet the precedent of arresting and charging a former President freaks out all federal politicians.
No matter how much I would like see the Pig do time, it ain't gonna happen.

(3,841 posts)But if politics prevents enforcement of the law, then what good is the law. And that just reinforces Trump's attitude that he can shoot someone in the middle of fifth avenue and no one will do anything about it.
His base isn't big enough. It's time to start rallying the pro-democracy, anti-fascist anti-trump forces and hit those ballot boxes hard.

(2,564 posts)for me, it will be just as satisfactory that Trump be prosecuted for his, prior to the presidency financial crimes, they seem to be legion.
If on the other hand, his support has thinned and it is and will continue, it will be even more satisfactory to see him prosecuted for, Abuse of Power, and the financial corruption while in office, like that Justice Kennedy resignation to appoint Kavenaugh. and or the DeJoy appointment, the Wall contracts, the pharmaceutical contracts for the COVID Vax, and similar financial schemes.
