After advocating for a mask mandate in the local school district, health care professionals were surrounded by an angry mob of parents following a Tuesday school board meeting in Tennessee. In a video released on Twitter, a group of people in Franklin, Tenn., can be seen yelling at health care workers as they attempt to leave the building where the Williamson County School District Board meeting on school safety measures was taking place.

As the health care workers exit the building, the crowd waiting outside begins to chant, "we'll not comply." One woman yells, "take that mask off!" as a health care professional heads into the parking lot. The footage appears to follow this health care professional as he heads to his car but is followed by an unmasked man in a black shirt.

"You're not on our side!" the unmasked man yells. "We know who you are." You will never be allowed in public again!" he later continues. Another unmasked man seems to come to the aid of the man in the black. He also threatens the fleeing health care worker, pointing his finger at the driver's side window. "We know who you are. You can leave freely, but we will find you," he says with his face up against the window.

The clash between parents and healthcare workers came after the Williamson County Schools Board of Education voted to require masks for students, staff, and visitors inside buildings and buses at the elementary school level. During the four-hour meeting, emotions ran high, and disruptions frequently occurred as members of the audience attempted to speak out against mask requirements, according to the Tennessean...

I don't understand this, a hell of a lot of people ignore idiots like these demanding no masks, etc. and you can see this on the streets, in the grocery stores, etc. w/ the prevalence of masks everywhere...I've yet to come up against someone who's anti-mask, but in the bar I was at yesterday, the bar manager was cracking the whip on those who weren't wearing a mask and he explained why, that the bar would be shut down if the mask mandate was not followed and he didn't want the bar to be shut down. He'll throw out anybody that otherwise doesn't follow the mask mandate (you could take the mask off when drinking), one guy / one girl were kind of moaning about it (the masks) but did prevail on wearing the masks eventually. The regulars are okay w/ the mask mandate.

7. I have an idea that I've not heard voiced before...

but I'm really wondering about it. We all know how much the Republicans hate the idea of Public Education. What if all this anti-masking for schools, etc., is another way to kill the public school system?

I know if I were a mother during this period of time, I'd be homeschooling my child with the help of one of the many ads for remote learning I see advertised on TV all the time.

Flip the homeschoolers from the dead-enders and religious nuts to those with intelligence and morals, and soon only the very poor and the delinquent class will be going to public school. At that point, how hard would it be to close down the public schools as threats to civil society?

Like I said, I've not seen this mentioned anywhere, but I've had the thought germinating for a while... and if I've thought it, you know these Repugs have. Anything to kill an American "good." Anybody else think the idea has some weird merit in the minds of evil doers? Or am I alone out here trying to suss out what they might be trying to do in the background of all the noise?

8. DeSantis is using the Mask issue to expand vouchers

--just as the GOP viewed Katrina as a chance to start the New Orleans School district over from scratch implementing their anti-education ideas, the Ideological tools will use COVID to break the teachers unions, then the schools.

They'll be crying for virtual and blended schooling to keep their little white angels away from all brown and Black kids.

Yes, when public school is only the delinquent class and the socioeconomically disadvantaged, they'll demand an end to free public education and insist the poor have "skin in the game."

THey view life as a game rigged to their advantage. FUck them.
