Bill Maher's dark vision for 2024 is all-too-real

If you thought 2020 was bad, just wait for 2024.

That's the message from comedian Bill Maher in a powerful segment in which he suggests that what happened in 2020 -- Donald Trump insisting, without proof, that the election was stolen and leaning on Republican election officials to change the vote (or ignore it entirely) -- was only a test run for what is coming.

"Trump has spent his [post presidency] figuring out how to pull off the coup he couldn't pull off last time," Maher argued, noting that the former President has systematically sought to eliminate those who kept him from overturning the election -- from Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.

On this, Maher is spot on. Since his 2020 election loss, Trump has spent the vast majority of his time fighting with his own party -- insisting that they aren't fighting hard enough and that he will find people willing to do just that come 2022.

He gets all the attention. Meanwhile, republicon scum, billionaires and corporate toadies are working harder than ever to finish cementing their permanent control.

Certain elected Democrats are content to not just step back and allow them, but apparently make sure that no other Democrats put a stop to it.

Sinema and Manchin. Apparently they are not worried. I guess they will play Neville Chamberlain.

I got tired of having my posts hidden by Manchin-lovers for speaking the unvarnished truth about people with a "D" after their name who are clearly working for the other side.

has pretty much evolved into “there are good people on both sides”

Now where have I heard that before?

Him and his cancel culture and false equivalencies, how the left and right are both the same, are not impressive credentials

His last show where he espoused this great wisdom, he had Robert Costa and Killer Mike on, to distract from what Costa was trying to say

The great Killer Mike blaming Biden because he “didn’t keep his word about helping” African Americans if he was elected, only demonstrate just what an idiot he is, and a complete lack of understanding of the legislative process. Killer Mike laughing how great at a football game some in the crowd chanting “fuck Biden”

There are plenty of people a lot smarter and wiser then Maher who have been saying this since trump was elected

You hate Bill Maher. Your personal grievance doesn't change the fact that he has a valid warning,

For me it's not about Bill Maher. It's about preserving our democracy from its greatest threat in 160 years.

His libertarian streak annoys me but I agree we’re in serious jeopardy. If I were a betting Gal I would put our odds at maybe 50/50 as far as retaining our Democracy. One scary time we’re in.

We need more Republicans like Cheney and Kissinger who put our Country above that Fat Orange Dumb Loser.

One thing that would be a big boost to our chances is that Fat 70 some years old Liar dropping dead. He would seem to be a prime candidate to do that considering his cheeseburger diet.
