EXPLAINER: White 'replacement theory' fuels racist attacks

NEW YORK (AP) — A racist ideology seeping from the internet’s fringes into the mainstream is being investigated as a motivating factor in the supermarket shooting that killed 10 people in Buffalo, New York. Most of the victims were Black.

Ideas from the “great replacement theory” filled a racist screed supposedly posted online by the white 18-year-old accused of targeting Black people in Saturday’s rampage. Authorities were still working to confirm its authenticity.

Certainly, there was no mistaking the racist intent of the shooter.

WHAT IS THE ‘GREAT REPLACEMENT THEORY’?

Simply put, the conspiracy theory says there’s a plot to diminish the influence of white people.

I think it was maybe 10 years or so ago that demographers projected that white people would fall into the minority around 2040, and I think that was projected based on the demographics at the time, and not including further non-white immigration - legal or otherwise. So, folks, it was gonna happen. It is gonna happen. It's sociology. And math. (Thinking back on that, I'd like to see what a projection of this sort might have looked like in, say 1990, or 1970, or 1940, for that matter, my point being that it was inevitable all along.) I think it was Colson Whitehead who wrote an alternative history where slavery continued in the south. I think another, maybe more interesting, alternative history might be what the US would have looked like, and would look like today, if slavery had never existed in the US, if actual born and bred American white people worked the land for market wages.

But I digress.

Well, 2040 seemed like an age when this story first came out. Now, it doesn't seem so far off. At the time, I commented, here, I think, that I, for one (oldish white guy), was looking forward to this, as it would, I hope, be inevitable, that our elected officials would more accurately reflect the constituencies they serve.

As for "Jews replacing White people", for fucks sake, most Jews ARE white people, and wtf would be in it for them?!..
I've yet to hear anyone in the mainstream media attempt to CHALLENGE it, or point out its obvious inconsistencies. It makes me absolutely crazy.
