In Georgia, Herschel Walker, a former star football player, is running to unseat Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock. He is one of the biggest names on the list of midterm candidates endorsed by Donald Trump.

Who is Herschel Walker?
Walker is a former running back who led a formidable NFL career, most of it spent with the Dallas Cowboys.
But he gained most acclaim from his college football career at the University of Georgia, where he led the Bulldogs to a championship and won the 1982 Heisman trophy, awarded to the best player in college football.
Walker can claim no prior experience holding public office, but he has voiced his political opinions for years. The Wrightsville, Georgia-raised Walker was an early supporter of Trumps presidential run. He backed the former president in 2015 and has been a vocal ally since, campaigning on Trump's behalf.

The last time I heard of Walker prior to his current Senate run was when he joined the USFL New Jersey Generals in 1983.
Donald Trump bought the team two years later so this is where their association starts.
So one has to ask what qualifies Walker to be a U.S. Senator?

The same for Oz.
The same for most of the GOP Senators. They are tribal and ignorant.
Damn, I hope we do well in these upcoming elections.

Then, the little pissant -- while standing there with an assault style rifle and an armored vest with many magazines -- goes on to say, "But I fought in Iraq and today I'm fighting for freedom from the likes of Biden and Harris. . . . . . "
I keep hoping one of these A-holes comes to my door to tell me why I should vote for them.

(3,839 posts)The African American former football player at the University of Georgia, born and raised in Georgia, who said that naming the voting rights bill after John Lewis didn't fit "Senator Lewis'" achievements, legacy or what he was all about? That Herschel Walker?

How can you be that clueless and run for the US Senate? How can you be even more clueless and vote for someone like that?

(13,865 posts)I have a good friend who played for a rival SEC team
against Georgia. He said he was a nice guy but was dumb as a rock. He acknowledged that he never had to worry about attending class or his grades after Junior High due to his freakish football ability.
His assessment of Walker is that he had millions of dollars and just enough sense to know that he needed people to handle it for him. His financial advisors told him that GOP efforts to cut capital gains taxes would make him a lot of money, and he liked that. Plus, his fame had shielded him from the worst of racism since he has always been idolized by a largely white fan base.
