(Romney/Ryan) How Campaign Outwitted the 24-Hour News Cycle
The escape plan was carefully choreographed. On Friday, after a day of work, Representative Paul D. Ryan pretended to turn in for the night, walking through the front door of his home in Janesville, Wis.
He did not stay for long.
To elude reporters camped outside, he slipped out the back door with a suitcase and walked through the dense woods that surround his property. He exited on a nearby street, where an aide in a waiting car drove him to the airport.

We gave a lot of thought on how to make this work undetected, said Beth Myers, the Romney aide who oversaw the vice-presidential search.
The unveiling began with a telephone call on Aug. 1, placed by Mr. Romney from his campaign office in Boston. He asked Mr. Ryan if they could meet four days later. Unknown to Mr. Ryan, Mr. Romney had already made up his mind.
But where to meet? Aides agreed on Ms. Myerss house, in Brookline, Mass., a suburb of Boston. Nobody would be looking for a rendezvous there, they reasoned. But they took no chances. To get to Brookline, Mr. Ryan went to OHare International Airport in Chicago wearing jeans, sunglasses and a baseball cap to avoid detection. And instead of flying to Boston, the most direct route, he landed in Hartford, Conn., about two hours away. There, he was picked up in a rented S.U.V. driven by Ms. Myerss 19-year-old son, Curt.

This is an AWESOME (as Cenk would say) escape route, especially since Ryan lives in a wooded area and avoided areas where the media was likely to congregate, like the Madison or Milwaukee airports. Who'd expect Paul Ryan to trek to Obama's hometown to fly to a campaign event?
