Gun Nuts to Build 2,000 Acre Citadel in Idaho’s American Redoubt
Gun Nuts to Build 2,000 Acre Citadel in Idahos American Redoubt
Weve all heard of gated communities. Weve all heard about the Second Amendment. Have you ever wondered what happens when you put the two together? How about a fortified community? Thats the latest right-wing tactic.
CNS News reports that, A group of like-minded patriots, bound together by pride in American exceptionalism, plan on building an armed community to protect their liberty.
Notice the keywords used:
American exceptionalism
armed community
liberty
Yes, the worst elements of the Second and Tenth Amendments have come together in the creation of a monstrous American afterbirth.
According to CNS,
The group, named Citadel, intends to purchase 2,000 to 3,000 acres for the project in western Idaho. The community will comprise of 3,500 to 7,000 families of patriotic Americans who voluntarily choose to live together in accordance with Thomas Jeffersons ideal of Rightful Liberty.

jmowreader
(50,553 posts)Their first problem is there's nowhere in Benewah County to build that thing unless (maybe not even then) they plan on clearing lots of forested land. Second problem is there's only farming on the reservation, where they can't build. Plus, the main crops are wheat and bluegrass.
This is like the cartoon about the day after Atlas Shrugged when they realize no one in Galt's Gulch brought any food.

(3,811 posts)around the 1300s or so when the use of cannons became commonplace. They're gonna "make a stand" against a modern armored regiment? Give me a fucking break. The place is destined for bankruptcy. A few scattered houses in a huge, unbuilt, planned development in the middle of nowhere.

(111,245 posts)That would be even more effective than tanks or artillery.

(16,230 posts)You may be right, but if so then it seems odd that a supposedly libertarian organization feels the need to obscure the fact that they're for profit. You would think that they'd be proud of being profit-driven.

(50,949 posts)The decisive battle of Cesar's Gaul-campaign. The Gauls, led by Vercingetorix, holed up against the Romans in a heavily defended fortress.
The Gauls expected a massive Roman onslaught. Every day they readied themselves for war and put on war-paint.
What did Cesar do? His army built their own fortifications (mainly tranches), completely surrounding the fortress, and simply waited for them to run out of food.
In the end, it was the Gauls who attacked first.
It was a pitched battle, but in the end the gaulic freedom-fighters were defeated by the disciplined and battle-hardened war-machine that was the Roman Army.

Like minded people all in one place by mutual consent you could have varieties on the theme with religious fundamentalist, Ditto head, GOP, etc. , all in compounds in a true collective made to order. I should be looking for the cynic collective that believes the human species is a dead end, HOW DEPRESSING!
Democracyinkind
(4,015 posts)This is what gets me about this type of RW. They're collectivists, when you come right down to it and look at their social utopias carefully. It doesn't hit them because they associate "communism" and "collectivism" with "foreign, dark, brown", whatever. This never stops to intruige me.

Administration? Telephone/internet? Cable TV? Garbage disposal and sewage management? Clothing and other basic needs?-- What person or persons would actually be in charge? Who would residents go to if they had a problem? I know there will be a huge vault for everyone to store their gold coins, but who is in charge of that? How will people get around the compound, other than walking?
Of course, I should have asked from the start: Who in fuck's name would pay for all of this?

(101,306 posts)(and yes, I've checked this name - you can find it associated with far right gun comments on other sites in Google - this person is real, and approvingly referenced by other gun nuts):
Are their any contigency plans if TSHTF before Citadel is up and running? For example, if a person purchases a lease on either a house or a lot, and TSHTF before anything had been built, etc. would they be able to bug-out to the land already purchased and meet-up with others? As I write this, reports are coming in about a mass school shooting at an elementary school in Newton, Conn; 18 dead. DHS is getting so desperate that they are starting to kill our children. I don't think we have time to wait on Citadel being completed before TSHTF.

Physical preparedness to survive and prevail in the face of natural catastrophes such as Hurricanes Sandy or Katrina or man-made catastrophes such as a power grid failure or economic collapse.
Well, western Idaho is pretty safe as far as hurricanes are concerned talk about nut job central
Paladin
(28,252 posts)The Citadel website has an AR-15 rifle and a 1911 pistol for sale, and they say that these are not "Safe Queen" guns. Care to illuminate this term for us? Sounds interesting.
Paladin
(28,252 posts)When Gun Enthusiasts refer to a "safe queen," they mean a firearm that they don't use with any regularity, i.e., a gun that stays stashed in their gun safes for long periods of time (generally a year or more) without being fired. Not nearly as salacious a definition as I was hoping for, but there you go.
Full disclosure: I guess pretty much all my guns are "safe queens." Suits me.

I see a farmer's market, but where are the farms? If you had a nearby farm, would you want to shlep your organic produce into the "compound" to sell to a bunch of pistol-packing lunatics? I guess they figure that after the crash they will be the new feudal lords.
