The Pope expanded on his critique of "trickle-down" economics, noting that...

"The promise was that when the glass was full,
it would overflow,
benefitting the poor.
But what happens instead,
is that when the glass is full,
it magically gets bigger
nothing ever comes out for the poor."

what we call trickle-down was once known as horse and sparrow economics and caused a massive panic in the 1890s.

Why horse and sparrow? Because if you feed enough oats to the horse, some pass through the horse and make it to the sparrow. I think that presents a much more accurate impression of how the offensively-wealthy view the working-class...they get to gorge on all the wealth and we get to eat what they drop and/or shit.
