1914 in 2014: The flashpoints of a dangerous new year

A South Korean protester burns an anti-Japan banner after police officers spray fire extinguisher during a rally against Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in front of the Japanese Embassy in Seoul, South Korea, Friday, Dec. 27, 2013. Abe paid his respects at Yasukuni shrine honoring Japan’s war dead in an unexpected visit Thursday that drew sharp rebukes from China and South Korea, who warned that the move celebrates his country’s militaristic past and could further sour relations.

1914 in 2014: The flashpoints of a dangerous new year

The new year marks the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War I. Several new books on the origins of the Great War have been published recently which portray unsettling parallels between the world then and as it appears now.

The rise of new great powers that threaten the status quo (Germany then, China today). The globalization of trade and investment with new entrants into the global economy (Germany and the U.S. at the beginning of the 20th century, China and the emerging markets of the Indo-Pacific today). A rising tide of ethno-nationalism and militant extremism that shattered the Hapsburg Empire in the Balkans and Eastern Europe — versus the rise of Islamic extremism today and the Shiite-Sunni split that is tearing apart the weak fabric of many Middle Eastern states.

Our favorite book in this new pantheon of titles is Christopher Clark’s The Sleepwalkers: How Europe Went to War in 1914. Clark argues that there was no single guilty party in the outbreak of war. Rather, world leaders were, as his title suggests, “sleepwalkers” who paid insufficient attention to the risks of global conflagration that lay in the dry tinder of the Balkans and other early warning signs of potential trouble, like the Russo-Japanese war of 1904, which grew out the rival imperial ambitions of Japan and Russia over Korea and Manchuria.

Here are five global topics should capture attention of the world’s leaders and the public in the New Year, lest we sleepwalk into the abyss again.

Anybody who has bothered to study actual history can tell you that there are very few, if any, exact, or even similar, parallels between 1914 and 2014.

Europe, in 1914, had had some truly major tensions building up for some time before the actual shooting got started; the assassination of the Archduke was merely the final flashpoint in our world's conflict, when a hundred other things could have instead been the match that lit the tinderbox, as it were.

While there *is* potential for a major conflict, one should realize that this does not necessarily equal a World War type situation. In fact, barring a truly bizarre chain of coincidences, or perhaps some sort of organized conspiracy, or perhaps *both*, even, WWIII is essentially not in the cards for the time being.

Financial Engineering in 1908-1913 caused 1914. Follow the Money. England financing Russia to maintain a Continental balance of Power. Financial Chicanery from 1997 -2013 is about to cause 5 world firespots that no amount of interdependence will contain.
1. Ukraine/ Crimea
2. Arab Sizzling Summer
3. Afghanistan/ Pakistan
4. Kashmir Indus River Valley
5. South China Sea/ Korea

The world lacks Leadership and Growth because of the greed of Financial manipulators who take much more wealth
than they are growing.

The New Isolationism and withdrawal of US / Western "imperialists" will empower the worlds nihilistic tyrants to start
killing each other.

1. Eastern Ukraine is ablaze and Russia cannot contain it. Ultimately, Russia will explode ala 1917.
2. From Libya, Egypt, Gaza, The Occupied Levant, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, Iran, Saudi and the Gulf states.
will use the wealth and weapons of the Oil Age to explode. Where is the Great Satan when you need him to keep peace??
3. Taliban will takeover Afghanistan Again. Pakistan will be in Civil War.
4. When the water has too many takers and a limited volume, a Water War will occur.
5. China is economically collapsing due to 3 decades of Growth some real , some fraudulent. To keep the peace inside, China will nationalistically make trouble, Vietnam invasion, Japan Sea war, and have N Korea make trouble for S Korea..

And the Great Imperialistic Satan will need to Sit this one out because it is BROKE.
Its Economy cannot support one War let alone 3-5 adventures.
When the 50-100 million casualties occur, the worlds people may think the PAX Americana was not as Bad as
they all freelly spoke and said it was?????

Europe will want to debate what should be done.
Africa will look for help and find none being offered.
South America will look to trade but realize no one can afford to buy.

And a self contained North American regional trading group will export only what they want to
have a trade surplus. Energy, Food, Manufacturing, self-sufficient island.

We are sick of a world who COMPLAINS about an outward looking America.
We are sitting this ONE OUT THE WHOLE WAY!!!!!
Let Amnesty International, Greenpeace, and the Disunited Bureaucratic Nations SAVE THE WORLD.
Have FUN!!! No more good ole USA to kick around? Football anyone????
Ciao
