Yes, he was a slave owner, but he wrote:

"And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with his wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that his justice cannot sleep for ever: that considering numbers, nature and natural means only, a revolution of the wheel of fortune, an exchange of situation, is among possible events: that it may become probable by supernatural interference! The Almighty has no attribute which can take side with us in such a contest."

He saw that civil war would come.

I believe there are more instances of the abridgement of freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments by those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations.

No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare.

Where an excess of power prevails, property of no sort is duly respected. No man is safe in his opinions, his person, his faculties, or his possessions.

If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.

He was also pro RKBA, but considering the times...

I'm in it as well.

According to a study done by Jeffery J. Mondak, Ph.D., your scores indicate that you are:

Less likely to have a tolerant attitude towards smoking. Check
More likely to favor harsh criminal punishments over milder ones. Not so much
Less likely to watch TV and read the news, preferring instead to follow your own interests. Not so much
Less likely to mobilize your friends in your own interests, preferring instead to immerse yourself in your interests in solitude. Check
Someone who seems impassive to others, while being in fact quite sure of your own views. Check
Less likely to frequently change jobs and partners. Check
Less likely to end up in jail or to get in trouble with the law. Ah, no comment
More likely to generally agree with your immediate friends and family. Not so much
More likely to simply avoid people who are hostile to you, or with whom you are in disagreement. Check
More likely to oppose capital punishment. Check
More likely to take a favorable view of government welfare programs. Check
Less likely to enjoy fitness training and physical exercise. Check Check Check
Less likely to believe in any kind of dogma that you regard as settled in stone. Check
More likely to flirt with harm and danger. Have in the past, but not so much now (caving, paragliding, and repelling)
More likely to have insurance or to belong to a labor union. Not so much

Not a perfect fit, but most of them were true. The exercise one is dead on.

Maybe on my 50th birthday. That will give me 7 more years to live.

I went caving when I was younger. Actually most of them were old mines up in a mountain near the city we lived in. Had a few close calls too. I was so much skinnier then. I'm not sure I could drag my ass though one now if I wanted to.

Only went repelling once in high school and it scared the hell out of me.

Did the paragliding in Boracay over water. It was so beautiful being up there in the sky.

"I had rather be shut up in a very modest cottage, with my books, my family, and a few old friends, dining on simple bacon, and letting the world roll on as it liked, than to occupy the most splendid post which any human power can give."

It did get a few things wrong, tho.

"More likely to favor military intervention as a means of solving foreign policy problems."

"Less likely to think that international cooperation will solve foreign policy problems."

"More likely to enjoy romantic fiction than the rest of the population." - I love fact-based reading (history, biography, technical manuals, etc.).

"More likely than the average person to enjoy bitter vegetables like broccoli and arugula." - Can't stand what I call the "stinky" vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, Brussel sprouts, etc.)
