Leader of Ukraine’s Right Sector,..., rails against Putin, Russian military and Jewish oligarchs

...

Even so, his military strategy quickly turns to the need for Ukrainians to prepare for a guerrilla war against Russian occupiers. Many Ukrainians have weapons and know how to use them, he notes. He outlines a strategy of hampering Russian troops by blowing up bridges and rail lines.

At the Right Sector headquarters, he says they are not unprepared for a fight, and shows off a cabinet of ready-made Molotov cocktails. He points out that the cabinet, which reeks of gasoline smell, has a “No Smoking” sticker.

When asked if advocating such aggressive actions against the Red Army is wise, he pauses to think for a moment, then sums up the way he sees life.

“This is not being aggressive,” he said. “This is just being a man.”

Svoboda's not exactly a bit player, but it's not the #1 player in Ukr. It's also grown a bit beyond it's Galician/fundie roots, but it's still "for whites only," so to speak. That limits its appeal. Even PR is against Russia in this case (with speculation that PR didn't back taking the Crimean business to the UN because it didn't want to sever *all* ties with Moscow).

Ukr has locally banned PR and the Communist Party, Yanukovich supporters. And the Euromaidan/Avtomaidan folk haven't all gone home. Still, while there are fascists on the Maidan there are also non-fascists and even anti-fascists on the Maidan. It's like any other opposition movement: The uniting factor is "opposition".

On the other side is Putin and his "One Russia" party, 20-40k troops, media campaigns, closing down media sources and arresting dissidents; and Aksenov, Putin's mini-me, who's rabidly pro-Russian. His party controls the Crimea, and has said that such "negative moments" as having a Ukrainian film playing in a theatre in Crimean simply won't happen. That the European charter for language rights is based in democracy, and since Crimea is 80% Russian-speaking the only "democratic" language, the only language that can be allowed, according to European legal principles, is Russian. (Which is rather a travesty of the word "democratic" and completely opposite to the actual European charter, which calls for preserving and encouraging the use of minority languages and ensuring their transmission to the next generation.)

In one, the assholes are clearly present, and are prominent in the cast. In the other, they're the entire cast. The observers are the 45 million Ukrainians, some of whom are clearly anti-Jewish fascists, some are Ukrainian nationalists, while others are Russian nationalists. (Note: "anti-Jewish fascist" includes Ukrainians and Russians.) Then there are a lot that ren't uber-nationalists or especially fascistic.

Taras Berezovets, quoted in your article, is a lying asshole. Pravij Sector has over 9000 members that the EU know of with a caveat that that's a minimum figure because these guys don't exactly come out to be counted. 9000 known members for an organization that just sprung up in late November 2013. And that's just Pravij Sector without counting Svoboda, White Hammer or the more extreme groups like Spilna Sprava (who call themselves the SS Stormtroopers) and number in the thousands. Who is this guy trying to fool?

15 years from now they'll come screaming that we need to go fight the fascists there, just like the little stunt they pulled after they financed Al Qaeda and feted them as "Freedom Fighters". Fuck em. We've seen this play too many times, including with the real Nazis.

People can't say they're not warned.

Ukraine – second antisemitic broadcast in a month on Ukrainian television network

Source:

For the second time this month, the Ukrainian cable channel Antenna broadcast antisemitic statements. On February 13, the political analyst Igor Mazur spoke on the "Events, Facts, Commentary" program on the subject of Ukraine's partial rehabilitation of nationalists who fought against the USSR during World War II, some on the side of Nazi Germany. Reacting to a press conference in Moscow the day before, during which speakers blasted the Ukrainian government's recent actions on this issue, Mr. Mazur reportedly said that, "The kike-lovers and other freaks gathered in Moscow" and criticized Ukrainian politicians who "for the kike's money" betray their nation. "The task that the Jews have is not to allow the foundation of truly independent and strong states in Europe by healthy national forces," Mr. Mazur reportedly concluded. "Otherwise, their power will come to an end."
