Carville to GOP: You have a disaster on your hands

Carville to GOP: You have a disaster on your hands
By James Carville, CNN Contributor

I would send this memo to each of you individually, but I'm not sure exactly who you are. I've been told that you exist and that people like my colleagues Bill Bennett, Karl Rove, and Bill Kristol are charter members of it.

I am assuming you are out there and I assume there are more than three of you. At any rate, I thought I'd take a moment to catch up with you and make some observations on how things are going for your party.

Let me break it to you gently -- you've got a first-class disaster on your hands. I know you boys thought this thing would work out and you would be able to whip the Republicans in line to fall in behind Mitt (I assume you are all males but if there is a female in the establishment, I apologize.) Not going too good, is it fellows?

It's been a terrible time to be a Republican. There have been many moments during this process that have caused me great joy. Certainly the events of Thursday, ending with the CNN debate, and even the Fox debate Monday night, have helped ease the pain of my beloved Tigers' and Saints' recent defeats.

on morality while at the same time supporting a serial adulterer for prez!

Heres a couple of Bible verses for Newt and all those religionists who so quickly condemn gays and others:

Exodus 20:14
“You shall not commit adultery.

Leviticus 20:10
“‘If a man commits adultery with another man’s wife—with the wife of his neighbor—both the adulterer and the adulteress are to be put to death.

So there you have it hypocrite, lying teabag republicans! Lets see you give Newt the same venomous hatred you give to gays!

For the most part, the 'devout Republicans' are more Sheep than People! They are being lead by the nose, and refuse to think or think about the hypocrisy of their candidates. To them 'Church' is more social, than religion.

The right wing has overtaken the party and they have thrown common sense out the window.

Do they really think that Gingrich has a chance in hell to win over Obama? Most people think that Gingrich is vile. And what about his current wife? The uber religious Callista forgot her Catholic teachings and carried a 6 year affair with a married man. Do they really think that most Americans would want either one of them in the WH??????

It's nuts..........

If I'm reading it right, it looks like Rovian politics at its most cunning. The whole twisted circus act is intended to draw a huge but generally apathetic segment of voters into the action. These are the people that listen to (and believe) the crap on right wing radio. They make up a large base of many disenfranchised sub groups, some of which would vote anyway but most of which wouldn't make the effort without a special incentive. The clowns speak to these fringe heads in familiar code. They draw them out from their apathy because someone is now speaking directly to them. As the farce subsides, I expect all of the current crop of moron candidates to fade into the cartoon, but the process will have produced the desired result.

Once we're closer to the primary, I'm expecting a "real" candidate to be pulled out of a hat and held before the country as the rational republican. This leaves the thousands of newly activated fringe heads in the voting pool because they now feel empowered to take part in what they think is a participatory democracy. Their training will force them to vote against any liberal commie Democrat, no matter who it is they have to vote for.

Karl Rove chose Mrs Palin to "stir things up". He needed to get the media's attention because it was obvious that Obama was going to create a landslide of not only votes but popularity for the centrist/leftist cause. Rove's evil genius worked and the six-pack NASCAR world was focused on one thing only, the VP slot.

I expect Jeb or Christie to be a sudden infusion, most likely Jeb, at the end of the first act in the 2012 circus of right wing doom.

They know what they're doing.

As much as I like Carville's humor, I'd be surprised if he didn't see things this way also.

Karl Rove HATED Sarah Palin.
She was Bill Kristol's choice.

Jeb Bush is NOT going to be the savior of 2012, he would never ever NEVER run against Obama.
He's waiting until 2016, when the field is clear.

The Repubs are throwing this election.
Just like they threw the last one.
Yes, they would like to have Romney, if at all possible, because he's a nice, bland, money guy, but if they can't, Obama is doing just fine, and they'll have no problem letting him get re-elected.

All of the "stirring up" that is happening now is simply to generate huge amounts of advertising revenue for the networks, and to keep the rubes thinking that there actually is a horse race going on. This circus sideshow is simply a distraction. It's completely meaningless.

Yes, they know what they are doing, but it has nothing with actually trying to win this election.
They know they won't. This is all just a money-making game to them...

The reason I attribute Palin to Rove is I happened to catch a discussion on CNN about thirty minutes after Mrs Palin was announced. One of the reporters in the panel, a guy who was a common face at the time but whose name I can't remember, said he'd just talked to two of his insiders who were actually at the meeting that resulted in Palin's selection. He claimed that Karl Rove made the selection because the polls which had just been released showed that they didn't have a chance against Obama. Palin was a Hail Mary pass to "stir things up" and grab media attention away from Obama, which it did. I've never heard that Bill Kristol picked her, I bought the CNN guy's claim since it seemed honest, was immediately after the fact and was never mentioned again. Wolf Blitzer even seemed to intentionally drown him out from that point on in the discussion.

I think the republicans want to win this one though I totally agree they abdicated the last one. The hatchet job being done to Obama throughout his term leads me to believe they think they might be able to win.

It might be Romney but I think they are too afraid of losing the evangelical vote, and now the tea party and some of their middle class thanks to his gaffes. There is no "real" candidate right now so I think they'll pop up a familiar name at the last minute. Jeb is certainly smart enough to want to avoid facing Obama but I'm not sure that republican politicians get to make many decisions on their own.

All of this is just me thinking too much. I don't doubt that my theory is wrong, I did say "I think" or "I feel" because it's just a feeling I have. Those are often a bit nutz.

Don't forget both Palin and Bachmann have told us, that they have been picked by GOD to run this country. And that Tim Tebow will win this years Super Bowl.
Jeb is the one that scares me the most. How many would flock to his banner... Another Bush. 'He'll be the one to return America to her Glory'. And all he would have to say is 'I'm not my brother!'.

If we were to vote for Newt in the Republican primaries to set him up as the winner for the Republican candidate for president we would have an easy candidate for President Obama to beat. No Republican draws more distain than Newt GingRICH. He is the capitalistic pigs dream candidate. He brings more distain than the rest of the RepubliCONS. Read my web page at www.mybetteramericaplan.com to see why the Republicans are no good for America and how they have destroyed our country. On my web page is an easy plan on how to win the next election simply by moving voters from states that the Democrats are sure to win and sure to lose and move to and reregister in states that we need to win and states that are too close to call.

I wonder why he apologized in advance. Ms Carville might have seemed slighted but he was thinking about all the chores he would have had to do at home if Mary Matalin got the wind up and put her foot down, on his neck.

But then again she does not seem to be the 'feminist' type. Go figure.

if the voters don't return a Democratic House and Senate, a real possibility with their efforts at "jim Crow" and their control of the Diebold type electronic voting machines. Sure, it looks like Obama is a shoo-in, I am sure the Koch Bros. are working overtime to see that Obama will get a Republican Congress. Then we are screwed for another upteen years, a doomsday scenario.

There is a big segment of the other guys who will turn out to vote against Obama, regardless of who they are actually voting for. Newt will not attract any new voters and will do awful with the middle. Romney will do better with the middle, but nobody will be excited about voting for him. You think either will do well with the youth vote.

And it looks like Newty will get the nomination. Newty will dog whistle to all the bigots and racists, which will embolden the wingnuts, who will gain control of Newt's campaign direction, and it will be a horror of a disaster. Newty is appealing to every gun nut, Klansman, Bircher, racist nut, and they will unite behind him in hopes to get that "cullad fella" out of DC. Newty is playing old style Southern politics and he thinks it will get him in the White house, but all it will do is expose who he and the GOP stand for, and voters will vote for anyone to keep Newt and his bag o' nuts away from power.

What is happening now is a power struggle in the background, between the supporters or Mitt and Newt, and this will get real ugly quick. Give them plenty of rope and they will hang themselves, and very publicly.

I still think Romney will get the GOP nomination. What makes this a problem for the GOP is that Romney or Gingrich, if he actually gets the delegates for the GOP nomination, is that they will be bruised and broke by April, when the Obama campaign will just lob a barrage of campaign ads to put one of them on the defensive. The quicker that the GOP nominee is decided, it is better for the GOP.
