The Big Lie That Still Plagues Humanity

The Big Lie That Still Plagues Humanity

(7-26-2014 Edition)

The Big Lie enables people to think they are more worthy and superior to others. That big lie has been told throughout the history of humanity, and of course it has taken many forms.

The Big Lie has been the most extreme when told by fascist leaders who have operated and still operate under a cloak of patriotism and religiosity, appealing to the ego, pride and prejudices of the gullible people that blindly follow them. However, that is not the most dangerous form of The Big Lie.

The most dangerous and wide sweeping big lie has proven to be as it was told in the most charming way, with self-deprecating good humor used to cunningly disarm, mislead and deceive — a way that successfully pulled the wool over many Americans’ eyes for the last 34 years.

In America The Big Lie in many forms was revived by Reaganism, which enabled certain Americans to think they are more worthy and superior because of their wealth, religion, nationality and partisan political ideology. And, unfortunately, those forms of The Big Lie have gradually over time made it easier for right-wing hypocrites and bigots to revive their other prejudices and once again assume that their race or gender or ethnicity or culture is also superior. Consequently, The Big Lie has gotten worse.

on to groups of people (cliques), to countries - nationalism...or sometimes to religions.

My wife and I often speak of this on our dog walks - putting someone, some group, some country down - to what? makes us feel better? less afraid?

I don't see a way that this ever gets fixed....

One of the reasons I embraced Nichiren Buddhism in the first place is its teaching that all life is equal and equally respectworthy no matter what religion, and no matter what form that life takes. As you so aptly document, that is exactly what Jesus taught -- respect for all life as the core of his teachings, no matter the religion or lack thereof -- or, as it's expressed in the Bible, when asked what his one supreme teaching was, "Love one another." This is also the core of Buddhist teaching, and Buddhism also carries something you say here one step further. The pervasive lack of respect for life in this country is not just part of the reason for the tribulations, it IS the reason. Nichiren said, "When the minds of the people are pure, the land will be pure also." We plan to have world peace, but no need for everyone to practice Nichiren Buddhism.... As long as enough people respect all life, the tribulations will cease and we will have peace.

to a large degree by the msm, and to an enourmous degree by Fox "News" and hate radio. Until this changes, the Big Lie will continue to poison the minds of far too many.

The humiliation of having Dubya as President should have cured all of this long ago!! The gop conveniently forgets about that complete and utter FAILURE. Now they are promoting more losers to be President, since their party does not seem to attract INTELLIGENT people.

ok, i just guessing on how much oils in the ground, but...but the 'big lie' is a tool of mr pig (with apologies to the sweet porker family!) and m. pig is driven by idea of cashing in the useless asset BEFORE the env'rmtal alarms get too loud in mass media- and he'll spend billions to offset the worryworts ie WE the human race Mr pig KNOWS the matter is life or death for humanity, so he KNOWS/depends upon, the fact we will retool global economy, ban burning oil etc to fix problem, see climate change, and until we can stop the pigmedia from pushing the snake oil aka the 'big lies' we will put up with this nonsense...compressed air dynamo plants, for example, can store all energy needed TODAY to power economy, but mr pig wants to cash in the asset he has in the ground, regardless of larger impact on enviromnt, or the vast multi generational cost of cleanup!!! AND he's doing a very good job postponing the truth from getting booted up

Most informed, thinking people (most DUers) feel superior to the ignorant rethugians and teahadists.

Guilty here. Yet I understand that's not gist of the OP.

Sometimes I spend time scanning through radio stations everyday hearing, and listening to reasoning about the fight between good and evil.

How it is the righteous religious person through the ways of Christ, through Jesus that is good, just and right. The religious right are not the peep holes of a burqa also known as chadri that hide the faces in a tenth century culture of hate.

Religion stations in the morning, and several at night, ranting about the righteous right, for God is with you. The rant over and over seems without end. Sometime I think these Christian stations are Islamic funded. They are so cruel in presentations.

Then listen to Limbaugh rant about the Republican right as though it had connection to this religious right. The left is no good, the left is anti-American, the left lies, the left are not trust worthy.

On, and on Limbaugh endlessly debasing the general other than right, debasing the Democratic idea as a polarizing, condemning that way to think, condemning the majority to vote.

In the same sense political people talk over, and over about what the American people want. Yet many simple ordinary people appear now and then that confess we the people are not getting anything near what we need to make a living.

The media is giving America the sadness, the discomfort, the disparity in wealth, and especially those lies, big ones and small ones endlessly over and over again and again. Likely that’s why half the country is at or near poverty.
