23 Americans Killed On Malaysia Airlines Plane In Ukraine, Reports Say

Maybe I just haven't seen the latest updates on reports of Americans who died on this flight. At first we were told just one American died and now it seems there were 23? Why is there so much apparent confusion or lack of info about this by now?

There were 23 American citizens on the Malaysia Airlines jet that was allegedly shot down in Ukraine on Thursday, according to two reports, but the U.S. State Department has yet to confirm that figure.

Interfax quotes an unnamed Ukrainian Interior Ministry official as saying that 23 Americans were among those killed when flight MH17 went down near the city of Donetsk, Reuters reports. Moreover, a flight manifest included the names of 23 U.S. citizens, Fox News reports.

“We don’t have any additional details at this point on American citizens,” State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said at a briefing on Thursday. “Obviously, we’re seeking that information as we speak.”

Shell, Exxon Mobil employees aboard downed flight

Employees of Royal Dutch Shell and Exxon Mobil Corp. were aboard the Malaysia Airlines flight that crashed in eastern Ukraine Thursday, the companies said.

The airline has identified the nationalities of all but four passengers, and none identified so far is American. But President Barack Obama said Friday morning that at least one American was aboard the plane.

Reports were 23 on day 1 based on the MH manifest. State Dept. said they'd confirm. At last word they'd confirmed one.

They may have very high standards of proof and be waiting for DNA evidence. Seems odd that the manifest would be so at odds with State.

initially they thought 23, but when the manifest was released, it was one Dutch/American citizen.
