Rachel Maddow sat down with Jon Stewart to talk about her experience sitting in the Supreme Court this week during hearings over the Voting Rights Act. Maddow shared details of what it’s like to be in the court to hear the arguments, telling Stewart that Justice Antonin Scalia loves to “troll” with his deliberately provocative statements, and Justice Sonia Sotomayor subtly pushes back against him when she gets the chance. -snip-

Rachel's take on Scalia, if I understood her correctly, was that Scalia enjoyed playing the troll for shock value.

It was an amusing perspective that was, no doubt, geared for the Daily Show, but the fact that Sotomayor, who has worked with Scalia long enough to know when he's speaking his true beliefs, was stretching around to look at Scalia whenever she was speaking seems more indicative that he is just the rightwing jerk we've pegged him to be.

I'm looking forward to hearing more about it when Rachel talks about it on her show.
