Pigs can swim but they can't tread water. They have to keep moving forward. If they stop their rear end sinks and the front hooves start hitting their own throat, thereby cutting their throat.
How do I know? In 1972 I was one of the male swimmers at Aquarena in San Marcos, TX. We had a swimming pig as part of the show. To keep the pig moving a male swimmer would swim on his back to the side front of the pig while holding a bottle of milk with a nipple for the pig to suck on. The pig would chase the bottle and stay in motion.

Looks like they survived the swim just fine and they seemed to like it.
