4-Year-Old Misquoted To Sound Violent

Uploaded on Jul 31, 2011

A CBS news station is under fire after it misquoted a 4-year-old boy making him purposely sound violent on the air.

In the video, the child tells a reporter from WBBM that the shootings don't scare him and that, when he grows up, "I'm going to have me a gun."

...I'm thinking "why is someone saying the boy was misquoted?".
I was just about ready to stop the video when 'the rest of the story' came out.
That was wrong.

So everyone watch the entire video for the whole story.

who caught that channels feed. old satellite dish's used to catch these. was alot of fun seeing how bored some singers would get saying hello to rock 108 hello to kick 108 hell to zzzzz hell.

I'd assume someone caught this off a live satellite feed.

Either way. Okay kids gonna be a cop. hopefully not corrupt... But can never tell..

.... they misrepresented a little black kid to feed viewers' bigotry and paranoia! If the kid had been white, they would've started off with the part about him wanting to be a cop. Probably would've left out what he might've said about guns, too.

Damn them all to everlasting hell. And SCOTUS thinks bigotry and injustice have already been cured???? In a child's view he was only saying that he wanted to protect good people from bad.

A CBS news station decides that is very important to suggest that he hopes to become a future gang banger and therefore decides to edit out the part about his wishing to be a cop.

Could there be racism in this newsroom or is it more likely that the station has an editorial policy that the end justifies the means and that we need to pass strong gun control laws in our nation?

I seriously doubt that the news room is filled with racists.

There are plenty of good reasons to support strong gun control in our nation and I see no problem with a TV station or other news media advocating for such measures. But reporting the news in a democracy such as ours requires a great deal of responsibility to be honest and factual. The First Amendment is the first as it is the most important of our rights.

Perhaps we should consider forming an independent board of respected experts from all walks of life and all political persuasions who would grant a seal of approval to news organizations and reporters. This seal could be revoked if the panel agreed that there was a egregious misrepresentation of the facts in a story or video clip. This idea might make reporters and news organization far more responsible and also restore the faith of American citizens in our news media.

Of course my idea would apply to Fox News. In order to keep the seal of approval, Fox News would actually have to become fair and balanced.

Improve ratings and therefore make more money, the truth be damned! Holy Cow.

8. How would that "improve ratings"? That makes no sense.

It doesn't help ratings to air another 4 seconds of video tape.

... why do you think so many idiots watch Faux News? It feeds their insanity and makes them feel smart. CBS and other stations might not have so many idiot watchers, but they have enough to want to curry viewer/advertiser approval.

10. it is not just this 4 year-old who is fodder for local news' manipulation. It is all of us.

There is a direct correlation between how much TV news one watches and how scared one is of society.

The study shows an interesting relationship between peoples' TV-watching habits and their fear of crime.
"People who watch more televised local news are more fearful but total TV watching is unrelated to fear," asserts Chiricos. "Seeing local television news seven or more times a week is a fear trigger. People who watch with that kind of frequency are twice as fearful as those who don't watch local news at all."
The survey coincides with a less detailed, national Gallup poll which asked Americans if they viewed crime as a major societal problem. After languishing in the three to six percent range for two decades, the numbers quietly crept up in the early nineties. A dramatic increase from nine percent in 1993 to 54 percent one year later paralleled a 400 percent increase in television coverage of crime.
