Thom Hartmann: Finally Proof! Atheists are a Religion

Sanderson Jones, The Sunday Assembly, joins Thom Hartmann. Easter is one of the holiest holidays on the Catholic calendar - with millions of Catholics flocking to churches across the globe to attend Easter services. Can Atheists celebrate Easter too? Guess so. Plus they have a church.

Heh, okay, can an atheist gathering place get tax-free status?
May as well get something out of the misplaced ridiculousness and/or defensiveness.

Most religious people don't really have a religion and atheists are at least honest about it.

It is the difference between vertical and horizontal organization. Some need a singular focus to do anything. Others don't. Any of them can turn into a cult of personality or some type of heirarchy based on other principles. I wouldn't contribute money, though. That could get things going the wrong way.

get over it already. Atheism is not a religion, and if some try to create a forum for it, it will never owe allegiance to some unknown diety that can never be proven.

If Atheism becomes a religion, then what do I call myself. Religionless?

The need to define oneself by one's religious affiliation is seriously bothersome.

There's an old joke I'm sure you've heard, but I'll sumarize it...

A: "I'm a Baptist."
B: "Oh yeah? I'm a Baptist too."
A: "Well I'm a southern Baptist."
B: "Me too!"
A: "I'm a Georgian southern Baptist."
B: "Weird, so am I."
.....
....
....
A: "I'm with the North-3rd St. Atlanta 1st Baptist Church of Redemption."
B: "I'm with the South-3rd St. Atlanta 1st Baptist Church of Redemption."
A: "OH YEAH! Well FUCK YOU!"

It sort of sums up the silliness in adherence to labels.

objectivity.

Religion requires faith and is connected to something supernatural, to varying degrees. Atheism is just an absence of those beliefs. One analogy that comes to mind: It's like saying a vacuum is matter because it's the absence of matter. No, it’s not.

“This table is real!” Doesn’t make me a tableist.

....please stop this crap. Please don't project your own religious beliefs on those of us who don't believe in that sort of thing. If you're happy with what you believe, that's cool. As long as you don't attempt to force your beliefs on me by any means, I don't care what you believe and don't think any less of you because of it. So, please give non-believers the same courtesy.

Puts signs up like a religion and attempts to force their beliefs down others like most religions. Now Agnostics and some less in your face Atheists I can tolerate. But when someone tries to force their beliefs on others it's in the duh area of religion. Nothing new. ho hum. Course as I was juried on this once upon a time I had to double check I'm not posting this in the atheist area. that was a mistake of the front page at the time. X_X Like having a Straight man walk into a gay bar or a guy going to a bar on ladies night only. Or showing up with shorts in a tuxedo only event. X_X ouch.

oh my how enlightened you are , you can tolerate some of us.....

atheism is not a belief. atheists do not try to force their 'beliefs' on you . What they may try to to do is show that believing in invisible, magical, omnipotent little old men sitting up the clouds smiting some and blessing others is ridiculous.

You don't know what it means to have religion forced on you.
You are bothered by separation of church and state.
You think it's good enough being tolerant of others as long as they don't speak up about injustice and ignorance.

Sounds like you're a closet teabagger.
