My Mom was scribbling notes of her childhood in the last years of her life on paper tablets. How wonderful this would have been for her.

This is such a feel good story. Thanks for posting.

She has macular degeneration, but with the zoom feature and brightness controls, she's able to use it. She lives on the West coast, and we're on the East, so we use Facetime quite a bit. It's really wonderful.

Under their latest, and improved UI, it's 12 year old technology. There are user and technical necessities that have made them cling to it for this long.

It's their oldest infrastructure, but there are hints that things may change soon.

I'm not a geek but I've just about got it all figured out, even though I haven't updated for a long time. I've got about 100 gig in my iTunes library and I have an older iPod.

I'm going to be copying it to a 1TB hard drive to use on my laptop with having to load it on the laptop to save space. All I have to do is tell the laptop what the pathway is. I'll be calling Apple to get walked through that.

Still, the Kindle would probably meet her needs better, and it's half the price!

that allowed him to read the NYTimes, the Nation, and everything else he wanted to read (politics, recipes, weather, email....) in enormous print. When he woke up in the middle of the night, he was on the net checking things out. It is wonderful for vision-impaired people.

On edit: BTW, she's a poet, and a graduate of Reed College. Her limerick on the iPad --

To this technology-ninny it’s clear
In my compromised 100th year,
That to read and to write
Are again within sight
Of this Apple iPad pioneer.
