Somebody with media skills (not me!) should make this into an animated video.

What's the symbolism of this? Is he moving a bipartisan king? Are the green lines lasers?

Either side that 'mates' it still loses.

And yes, Obama is most certainly playing a complicated game.

9. "Politics is a game of chess, not checkers"

In other words, when he makes a move (a decision) he is looking at the long game as opposed to putting all his weight behind one particular move or decision.

For example, he didn't take immediate positions or make immediate decisions that the LGBT Community would have liked on DADT. HOWEVER, he WAS working behind the scenes and set up a path for DADT to be terminated through the military. He was several moves ahead while adversaries or dissapointed supporters were judging in terms of checkers - one single move.

I also see this in his skillfull game of rope-a-dope with the Republican Congress. He had to make conscessions that at the time pissed off his base. But NOW, he has the obstructive Republican Congress by the short hairs. They now have to defend raising taxes on middle class and trying to snuff out more in SS, Medicare, unemployment, etc. so they can argue for MORE tax breaks that only benefit millionaires and billionaires!

They are not going to win that argument, not to mention this is an election year. Sure, they can continue to obstruct and refuse to give an inch. But if they do, we are going to hear a giant sucking sound when Republicans in great numbers are going to be handed their pink slips and Democrats will have majorities in both Congress and the Senate, with a Democratic President.

I wish they would try it!

What I didn't understand was the two tone king, and the laser beams. If he was just moving a regular chess piece then it would make sense.

11. The stripes represent the Obama "O" stripes - Obama is the King

the image echoes represent the fact that he's playing multidimensional chess, and the lasers mean that he's a bad ass ninja chess master. You can't stop him...not even with green laser beams.

12. The 2 tone chess piece is red and blue - as in bipartisan or compromise.

Obama has shown over and over that he is willing to compromise to come to an agreement, even if it meant pissing off his base. It is repeatedly clear that the R Congress will not agree to ANYTHING, even when they were previously for it. They refused to agree to even $1 in additional revenue (from wealthy) for every $10 of cuts in programs that specifically hurt the middle class even more. Obama has been several moves ahead of them all along. And they took the bait.

On edit - ahhhh, as I look at the picture again, the red and blue chess piece he is holding is in position to overtake the red queen. The green lines are showing the move as well. (That particular piece can only move forward or backward along the green line.) His next move is to take that queen - game over.

so that it will fizzle out by the time of the election! Brilliant!

Remember Jeremiah WRight? That happened in March 08. By the election season, it was a non issue.

Same deal here. Great move, Mr. President!

...wouldn't have any idea of HOW to play chess.

They probably think that "chess" was the part of the strippers' anatomies that michael steele was looking at when he had his events at the "gentlemen's lounges".

PEACE!

7. Red AND blue King

It appears to be a red AND blue king. Not sure the symbolism there, or what that would imply on a chess board. Sorta works into the whole moderate/centris/third way/triangulation narrative.

I postulated that it might represent 'untouchable'.

As in any team that fights his intention loses.
