Thousands of people in southwest China have protested against a planned petrochemical plant.
They are worried that the project, due to be finished next year, will pollute their environment, but the government says the plant in Kunming, in Yunnan province, will be safe and bring economic growth.
Al Jazeera's Nadim Baba reports.

(2,397 posts)Was in doctors office today and read the Oct. 2012 issue of Time. I tend to jump on China stories fairly quickly which is why I wanted to see this. According to the article, it will still be business as usual--sorta. Xi has to figure out (since he is the "leader" how to quite down the unrest that has increased in recent months. Police will still crack down and put people far, far away, but the article implies he is trying to find the right "PR" tactic for the country. But I believe I said something here last year on another China story that protests will grow. They already have. Then you add in continued increases in living costs, and food prices and you wind up with a very aggitated citizenery.
