Thom Hartmann: How Electric Car Save Human Lives

Willard Mitt Romney once called electric car company Tesla a "loser" - but that company's list of accomplishments over the past few months seems to indicate a real winner. And more importantly - electric cars have the power to save mankind.

14 years ago, my son's first car ride, which was home from the Hospital, was in our Electric Ford Escort which we had converted ourselves. It has thousands of gas free miles now.

A couple years ago when we were invited to a Test Drive of the Nissan Leaf my son wasn't impressed. He said, "Dad, it's just an electric car. We already have one." Both my kids think EVs are normal since that's all they've grown up with.

He said the same thing about the Tesla Model S when an EV friend stopped by to show it. My son was come from his bus stop and just walked by it without saying anything. It wasn't until my friend tossed my son the keys and said, "the car is yours for a couple days." that he lit up and jumped in the passenger seat. Since he knows all about EVs he figured out all the Model S' display which is like a huge iPad.

I really wish by now, the electric car was normal for alot of people.

A few years ago that same friend was driving he electric RAV-4 and I had my electric Ford Escort. We just happened to be the first cars at the intersection. The people behind us didn't have to inhale any vehicle emissions. Can you imagine the day when all the cars at an intersection won't be polluting.

Also, EVs can charge from solar. When my friend dropped his Tesla Model S by for us to test drive for two days I charged it from our solar panels. He has solar on his house to. So most of the car's electricity is produced by solar. The only other cleaner way to get some place is to ride a bike or walk. EVs are the only vehicles that can get their energy from clean solar, wind and hydro power. So if anyone says EVs are just "elsewhere emission vehicles" they are wrong.

Mitt Romney and Sarah Palin are losers. After driving EVs for 20 years now I don't see how the EV is a loser. How come my EV still runs? I can't even imagine how many thousands of gallons of gas it's saved and how many tons, yes tons, of CO2 the car has prevented.

the electric car is not really a clean energy user. The electric power must come from two possible sources: Solar of Fossil.

Solar - this include wind energy because the wind is produced by temperature differences caused by solar radiation. It also include tidal waves because the waves are produced by the wind. If you use any of this sources to charge this car then you are using a renewable energy source.

Fossil - This is produced by the power companies. Whenever you plug this car to any outlet YOU ARE USING FOSSIL FUEL to power the electric car. The fossil fuel is burned at the power plant, not by the car, but the end result is the same. You are using fossil fuel.

As more and more cars are connected to the power grid, new power plants most be build to supply the new power required. End result: more fossil pollution.
