(590 posts)the tea baggers were right- he IS a kind of twisty Manchurian candidate...? I think we all know our goose is cooked here. It's just trying to get more smarter people in congress, senate, local and state... before it's over or too late. Voting law shored up and free world class public education for all, single payer health insurance, news media back to public interest and libel/heavily fined for false and misleading info, free and equal air time for candidates for public office, reverse the gerrymandering of districts, corporate laws reinstated and audited, government 'servants' and elected officials' actual jobs and pay/payola audited.. and down the line. But most people aren't even paying attention, at least that I see.

(29,047 posts)President Obama is a better diplomat, less hawkish, and more gay friendly than President Bush.

(13,812 posts)Obama is still a failure when it comes to Democratic principles. But, yes, he is a waaay better repuke then bush was.

(14,656 posts)today on this issue. I will not compromise on the 4th amendment. It's too precious to give up just to make the gov't'd job of keeping us safe easy. I don't think the founding fathers thought it would ever be easy to keep our republic secure. imho

I stupidly voted for candidate Obama twice.
While he may have been a better choice than rmoney or Mcinsane, he was not the best man for the job. Unfortunately, he has proved that and is still proving it.
IF he actually was doing a 180 on civil rights, he would trash the TPP and all of the other "free trade agreements." He would fight for Unions. He would actually make govt. transparent and stop all programs that conflict with the Constitution (there are so many "black ops" carried out against sovereign nations that Americans have no clue of, I know a couple of special forces guys who are deployed on "special missions" very frequently).
I no longer believe the "official stories" because the important ones (to me) never prove true.
Oh yeah, why punish instead of embracing whistle blowers?

(36,392 posts)He's also evolved on state-sanctioned torture, cuts to SS and Medicare, endless wars and "defense" spending, Single payer Healthcare, environmental protections, support for organized labor, and some other issues. bvar22 has an entire playlist of his campaign BS. It should be posted every time one of the apologists wants to know why dem voters don't show up. Can you even imagine a Repuke president abandoning his voters like our supposed Dem president has?

(8,219 posts)He seems to be at a loss for words a good bit of the time.
That concerns me because, whatever else I may think of him, I don't believe he's stupid or inarticulate. It seems like he hasn't really integrated, or owned, the position he's trying to present to the public, if that makes any sense. It appears he's trying to put the best face on things. Thus the comment of another poster on this thread that he seems almost like he's drugged, figuatively speaking.
I put this over against what I've read from numerous sources about his and his mother's possible association with the CIA from way, way back. It's relevant to this discussion because you'd think he'd be on-board with what the intelligence agencies are doing. I can't figure it out.
Regarding the previous paragraph, and before the loyalists show up to flame me and accuse me of taking my orders every morning from Alex Jones, I need to say that the CIA connection is something that's been out there for a long time, but I most recently read it in William Blum's new book "America's Deadliest Export: Democracy" (pp. 292-94, including documentation). I consider Wm. Blum to be a credible source.
But I digress...I do think it's alarming how Pres. Obama's position has changed. I would call it devolved.
