(497 posts)she 'felt'.
I used the word 'felt' because someone dealt me a fit for using the word think in regard to a animal (somewhere else, not here). I was told emphatically animals do not 'think', which is something I disagree with. Now they may not be capable of drawing up the plans for a atomic weapon or figuring out how to bring down buildings with airplanes like the human animal can. Or conversely, how to cure disease or put a man on the moon. But I do believe that there is more than instinct going on between their ears.

(10,622 posts)So worried in fact that it overpowered her self preservation instincts that would normally warn her to stay far away from loud noises and groups of potentially dangerous beasts.
In the end I believe she felt incredibly relieved to have her baby back, and although I am likely reading this into it I believe she felt pleasantly surprised and grateful to the scary creatures for helping her baby (she did let them observe the reunion, normal deer behavior would have been to get her baby away as fast as possible and hide from potential predators)

(392 posts)The idea that they do not is an old fallacious one, as is the notion that animals have no emotions. Many mammals, birds, and even octopi demonstrate high levels of intelligence, reasoning, problem solving, and sophisticated communication. Of course, acknowledging that does make it more difficult for people to justify a lot of the atrocities committed against our fellow Earthlings.

(497 posts)who believed animals could 'think' were ignoramuses. (I hadn't heard that word in years.)

(11,012 posts)Watch an animal with a problem figure out how to solve that problem. You can actually see the wheels turning.

(11,841 posts)I was parked at a store and sat in the car to finish a call before getting out. i noticed a sparrow land on the hood of the car parked facing me. He looked around a bit, then hopped onto the front bumper of the car. He then started to eat all the bugs that were stuck in the grill! It was a buffett to him! It was hilarious, watching him pick which ones he liked. He took his time and filled his belly!! I'd never seen that before and wondered when he had figured it out.

(5,106 posts)Either that or they are among the few psychopaths who want to justify their cruelty to "lesser" species. Most puzzling to me are those who hate certain types of animals and love others. Most usually these people are "cat haters" (to the point of deliberately trying to run over them if they are at the side of the road) but just LOVE their own dog and best buddy.

(6,891 posts)That higher order animals reason and solve problems is a scientific fact. Anyone claiming otherwise doesn't think clearly.
