(86,524 posts)It looks like most of the onlookers, at first, didn't think it would be so bad. They are fortunate to have been where they were when the reality of the situation started to reveal itself. Each time I watch one of these videos on the event I watch with my hand over my mouth in shock.
I wonder how those people are doing now.

I'm always amazed by these videos that show the start. It was certainly unimpressive when it first came in but it just kept coming and coming and coming.

(20,776 posts)I know its some where in northern Japan, as I have seen this video before. I don't think it is new either, just probably never shown on this website before. During that year of the Tsunami there were many videos posted on DU, and I know that I posted many myself. I saw this video at the beginning of the year, so I know its not that recent.
Still a horrible mess and I am sure there were not many who survived this event. Japan is still, cleaning up in many parts of Japan and of course there are some areas that people can not travel at all due to high radiation. This will be an on going problem for a long time, both in the radiation and in the clean up of the Tsunami.

2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami
Main article: 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami
On March 11, 2011, a 9.0 magnitude earthquake and a subsequent major tsunami hit Miyagi Prefecture, causing major damage to the area.[5] The tsunami was estimated to be approximately 10 meters high in Miyagi Prefecture.[6]
On April 7, 2011: 7.4-magnitude earthquake strikes off coast of Miyagi, Japan, Japan's meteorological agency says. Workers were then evacuated from the nearby troubled Fukushima-Daiichi nuclear facility once again, as a tsunami warning was issued for the coastline. Residents were told to flee for inner land at this time.
