Sen Ron Wyden Warns of Potential Public Backlash From Allowing Secret Law

Uploaded on May 27, 2011 = "severe violations of the Constitutional and Civil Rights of American Citizens." Ron Wyden

Speaking on the floor of the U.S Senate during the truncated debate on the reauthorization of the PATRIOT ACT for another four years, U.S. Senator Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) -- a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence -- warned his colleagues that a vote to extend the bill without amendments that would ban any Administration's ability to keep internal interpretations of the Patriot Act classified will eventually cause public outrage.

Known as Secret Law, the official interpretation of the Patriot Act could dramatically differ from what the public believes the law allows. This could create severe violations of the Constitutional and Civil Rights of American Citizens.

truly insane and another party, with only a few Senators and Representatives like Wyden, what backlash can there be?

The truly insane party is giving cover for 3rd-Wayers whose goal in life is to get rich while representing the super-rich.

Is there any 3rd-Way Senator or Representative who is not going to get rich by betraying us all?

a second person, and a third, and a fourth, ..., the clock will run out on the Obama Administration while the let's-spy-on-all-Americans-in-violation-of-the-Constitution-and-common-sense continues. Then the Administration's powers will be passed on to former Senator Clinton, or former Governor Jeb Bush, or whoever else.

So what is this backlash?

More dispproval of the Obama Administration?

I am one of those who never supported his Republican appointees. I am one of those who never supported his continuation of Republican policies under a "Centrist" label. I am one of those who never supported his policy of letting war criminals and banksters go free. And yet his policies and practices go on.

If you have some kind of backlash that goes beyond this, it would be worthwhile to hear it.

and it will happen. What remain to be seen is if this bites the Dems in the ass in 2016. That depends on Obama's actions at this time.

Last weekend my wife and I took 4 of our grandkids to Sellwood Park in Portland to go swimming and they have free events going on. As we were watching a talented fellow juggle on top of a tall unicycle, here comes Ron with 2 children in tow. Wearing jeans and a baseball cap with his almost ever-present smile, he acknowledged our hello with a simple "it's a great day isn't it?" He is a wonderful man who puts on no airs. As lifelong Oregonians, we are proud of the job he does for our state and our country.
