Anyone going to be watching Al Jazeera America? It' just premiered an hour ago.

This is the network that's expanding from 1996, which aired the Arab Spring online. They bought Current TV, and I'm hoping like the dickens that they'll be "open" enough to be the alternative to what I can no longer watch (which is why I primarily watched Current and BBC America).

Soooo.... some of the shows I'll be interested to check out-

Fault Lines, 5:30 p.m. ET / 2:30 p.m. PT – Going beyond the headlines to investigate the stories of those with unheard voices, today’s show highlights factory disasters in Bangladesh and examines the retailers producing clothing there.

Real Money with Ali Velshi, 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT – Why are premiums rising and benefits declining for those who have health care plans? Ali Velshi examines the state of health care in America.

The Stream, 7:30 p.m. ET / 4:30 p.m. PT – On tonight’s show, we talk to Egyptians and Egyptian Americans about the human cost of the political crisis in their homeland while engaging with our audience via social media.

Nightly News, 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT – John Seigenthaler discusses the day’s breaking news topics and offers analysis on current events from across the U.S. and around the world.

America Tonight, 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT – Al Jazeera America’s flagship program highlights the situation in Egypt, examines what some call “America’s worst jail” and takes a look at revolutionary cancer research from Duke University.

Consider This, 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT – Antonio Mora hosts this current affairs talk show that focuses on issues important to American viewers.

Reminds me of CNN in its early years.

I especially was fond of seeing The Young Turks (I realize I can still stream Cenk and the gang, excellent show)
Then, I was getting extremely fond of Viewpoint (John Fugelsang was also excellent)

Some documentaries (Vanguard) and many associated from that award winning series live on in AJA, which I think I'll weigh in on, but looks to be my "go to" news now (aside from BBC America) on television land..

I am watching the news now, and I am very disappointed. I watched AlJazeera on Link TV, and it was almost all foreign news, and that is why I watched it. We get so little foreign news on any of the TV news programs. I also am very disappointed that we now are directed from their old website to AlJazeera America, which is a very dumbed down version--and far too American--of the AlJazeera English website that you can access outside of America.
I wish that they would understand that we don't need them for American news, we need them to get foreign news and foreign perspectives. Argh!

From what I saw in some shows, they want feedback.

I watched AJ English online and I think I know what you mean. I DO BELIEVE they are trying to overcome what would turn people off in the United States (much as I hate to say this).

I actually told my sister about AJA, and as soon as I got the name out, it's as if she had NO INTEREST in wanting to see it as an alternative to MSNBC. She couldn't get past the xenophobic reaction.

On the one hand, it should be international, and it's trying to present good news, BUT... you almost know from the start they are trying to connect with the American audience... an audience, that if like my sister, is poorly informed and too lazy to want to get past the name!

They ditched us OTA (over the air) folks for you cable folks. I cant afford cable now I'm stuck with RT or a whole slew of CCTV channels (chinese central tv) Not sure why they hate us wiv rabbit ears but, current was buried in the gold leafed tier on the cable last I heard if you cant afford the gold package then your not seeing anything. They locked us out of AJE solidly as well. Not everyone has cable and most of the programmes on AJE would matter to a non cable viewer. I have no idea how anything AJE covered would be relivent to a gold tier subscriber.
