Anyone that thinks Putin give truly gives a crap about Syrians is in la-la land. This guy does care about his own people. Next, someone is going to post a scolding message from Kim Jun Un begging for compassion for the Syrian people.

What a hypocrite!!! HIS empty peace loving proclamations only hurt the anti-war cause.

some back-story to this issue between you. From reading his posts here, he doesn't appear HERE to have been " trying so hard to whip up support for an illegal military intervention" or war-mongering, has expressed "coherent thought", and his statements could be described as having "some relevance" and "makes sense." What I see from yours is a definite case of ad hominem attacks and a very closed mind.

I don't believe I agree with his position, but I don't have to assume my opposition is stupid in order to make myself feel better. If you know better, PROVE HIM WRONG! Politically, ad hominem attacks are a pretty dependable sign that the ATTACKER's position is the weaker of the two.

* Perpetually locks up in prison 70% of people who only makeup 12% of its entire population!

* Perpetually dumps poisons and radioactive wastes into the air and water supply and sickens the entire population but in particular the poor!

* Perpetually fucks with its neighbors (Mexico, et. al.) and dares them to do anything about it.

You know, you can immediately tell when someone realizes they cannot argue against the merits of a fact presented, as in this case here. Because they'll always go after the messenger and sling mud on them in the hopes that the ignorant among us will become confused and distracted. As if even a horrid asswipe like Putin here, can't also tell the truth about something. Something that any awake person would've already known anyway, without have to be informed by this jerk. But most people have their eyes closed and only hear the things that reinforce their fantasy.

- Unfortunately, most of the time it works all too well.

32. Seriously?
Sun Sep 1, 2013, 02:11 AM
Sep 2013

You're seriously going to compare the United States to a criminal regime like Russia?

How many people are in American prison because they were either investigating the government or protesting the government? Last I checked, people were in jail for crimes they were convicted for in a court of law. Not in a show-trial like in Russia where they are convinced for a make-believe crime and then tossed into prison.

While, certainly, not all states have the best environmental laws, are you saying that Obama and the Democrats do not care about the environment and are signing legislation to force the States to dump pollution? And what radioactive material has gotten me sick? I'm poor, yet I haven't lost all my hair from all the plutonium the government is supposedly laying around.

When was the last time we messed with Mexico? The American-Mexican war? Or are you referring to the war on drugs? Or maybe are you referring to our desire to allow a pathway to citizenship for 11 million or so of their people in our country? Now, supposing the war on drugs really is an awful thing, can you tell me how in any way it is in violation to American or Mexican law that we wage it? When the Russians invaded Georgia, was that like their "war on drugs"? I saw photos of decapitated Georgians cut to pieces by Russian munitions. Is that what the United States does in Mexico?

You know, you can immediately tell when someone realizes they cannot argue against the merits of a fact presented, as in this case here. Because they'll always make absurd and nonsensical assertions wherein they compare what is, despite all its flaws, still a good country like the United States that we are trying to improve, with a corrupt country like Russia where people like us, making these comments about their own country, would likely be beaten half to death in a dark alleyway.

Unfortunately, most of the time these tactics work all too well.

"We don't expose our citizens to radioactive waste!" sign too hard.

The Church Rock spill happened in 1979. Funding for a serious cleanup was finally allotted in 2008. They didn't tell the people downriver that they were being exposed to anything until they had absolutely no choice. It's still not cleaned up.

We killed a million Iraqis more or less for the sheer hell of it. So I wouldn't wave the "Doesn't harass other countries" sign too much either.

Yeah, we're better than Russia, but that's a really low bar.

It's a matter of degree and sophistication. Western nations are just better at covering it up, and/or getting people not to give a shit about some ''other'' since we're all fighting one another for a job and to keep from starving or getting cancer in a system that only values you if you can be monetized.

But the paradigm shift is upon us and this is part of it.

Sun Sep 1, 2013, 09:06 AM
Sep 2013

Just a few days ago one of my posts was ruled "off topic" because I had used RT News as my source. I was told my post was blocked because I had not used a "Reputable source." I did complain at that time that RT News is, in fact, an internationally recognized news source, at least as "Reputable" as American news networks such as CNN and FOX. I am delighted to see that RT News is once again considered a "Reputable news source" by the moderators reviewing posts on Democratic Underground.

As to President Putin's comments:

Unless and until we are allowed to see the actual evidence of who is responsible for using nerve gas on civilians in Syria, I find it hard not to agree with President Putin's reasoning. Blaming the attacks on Assad and his government is at this point just an unfounded leap of faith.
