Papantonio: Obama Wants War

This week, president Obama pressed Congress to approve an air strike against Syria. But he only sought Congressional approval after a massive public backlash emerged. The possibility of a strike against the country is still there, even if Congress doesn’t approve it – although they appear to be falling in line with the President. Ring of Fire’s Mike Papantonio discusses if a strike against Syria is constitutional, and what it will mean for our culture of perpetual war, with John Nichols from The Nation magazine.

1. If you actually think the President wants war...

... you are unable to look at reality in the face.

The President is drawing down two wars simultaneously.

This conflict has gone on for two years and the United States has not gotten involved. There were other time when chemical weapons were allegedly used and the President did not involve the military.

By all means oppose intervention. I am against involving ourselves in this conflict.

But to call people like Kerry a warmonger given is anti-Vietiamn activities after he was wounded in battle hurts the legitimacy of your argument.

He clearly wants this war in the worst way. He may just get what he wants, and in the worst way.

As to Sec. Kerry: Vietnam was a very long time ago. He has made his compromises with life, and with war.

You can't be serious? Do you never read a newspaper or watch the news on television?

Our President has spent the last two weeks doing a truly amazing imitation of of George W. Bush in late 2002. Just about the only thing missing has been the bomber jacket. He was so firmly determined to have his war that he ignored the polls which show only a small fraction of Americans like the idea. The only reason he went to Congress for a vote on his war of choice was because he was facing a rebellion there from both Parties, a rebellion that could have ended his military adventure before it even got properly going. The President wants this war, oh my yes he does!

I voted for Mr. Obama in both of his runs for President, and I still had great hopes for his last two years in office, but I must confess that this obsession with taking us into an unnecessary war with Syria (and who knows what other countries by extension) has turned those hopes into ashes.

I can tell by your question that you have, through your love for and belief in our President, been able to block out what is really happening. I admire and even envy you for that ability, but it might be time now to wake up from a happy dream. Reality is moving on without you toward a serious and awful turn of events. Our country is headed toward another Middle East war we can not win, and President Obama is as solidly set on that course as Melville's Captain Ahab was on his quest to kill the "White Whale."

As to Sec. Kerry: Maybe he is just channeling Colin Powell. Go figure.

If the President really wanted war we would have been involved a long time ago.

I am just going to leave it at that because I know there is nothing I can say that would convince you.

As to what our President really wants: I imagine his actions in the next few days and weeks will make that clear.

17. Yes, sadly correct, Kerry was chosen not only cause he's the Sec of State but a former anti-war guy

Y'know the perfect salesman. Forgotten is the fact that even though we are the Emperor of the World (at least act that way) we are not credible World Sheriff of Humanitarianism...not if you can read a history book. Just a fake sales pitch for the war mongering corporados to raise their bloated bottom lines and also to safe face for a stupid red line remark of more than a year ago by Mr. O. This is very dangerous and potentially a powder keg of starting a much wider war very fast...beware! Do all you can to spread the word and contact US Senators and Reps now as well as those in your social network. I mean now. Think this decision will be very close, all votes count. ACT.

"I would much rather spend my time talking about how to make sure every 3- and 4-year-old gets a good education than I would spending time thinking about how can I prevent 3- and 4-year-olds from being subjected to chemical weapons and nerve gas," Obama said.

Who was it who said that? It's only been a few years ago. Some little guy who always acted kind of stupid. He hung around with Tony Blair a lot. You know who I mean?

The overboard response to an event that hasn't even happened yet is! Well...weird anyway. I use humor to ease the tension in in my life. Its why I'm as old as I am and have seen all I have seen. And since you dont seem to be tolerant of other people opinions like the definition of a true liberal says... (Very ironic the post name you chose) Ignore for you!

Too bad all other posts from you, even ones that may have been important or had merit wont be seen by me. But you reap what you sow...SO ..Goodby!

and its followers - last time Bushies, this time people from the left – argue for something so self-destructive, morally corrupt and historically embarrassing, again. Once was too much. (And again, the people on the wrong side of the issue aren’t content to be wrong, they’re usually insulting and arrogant in their incorrect position. I was being nice for awhile about this, but I’m getting less tolerant of their indefensible position every day.)
