"pinkie" (a movie review of b, c, and d movies in, if I remember correctly) the san francisco chronicle. the reviewer was named billy jim bob, or something similar. they were absolutely hilarious. a standard line was something like, "well, this one is going directly to mst3k".

they used to subject teenagers to in the 50s and 60s. Most of them are on You Tube.

Girls only, though. And we needed parents' permission to watch. Hopelessly corny by today's standards, but indicative of the time.

the boys got to go outside and play baseball....and we girls had to go in the auditorium and watch the movie.
I remember being pissed that I couldn't go play ball.....had to watch the stupid and embarrassing film.

Times were sure different then.

Don't knock it. My mom was way too embarrassed about such things to explain it this well. Thanks for posting this. I always remembered seeing it but couldn't remember a single detail.

There was no discussion in classrooms about menstruation and no discussion in the family. My mother sent for the kit and gave it to me, I knew how to read, and that was that.

Reminds me a little of the film we saw - only it was about reproduction in general, not just menstruation. It was quite confusing - lots of birds and bees and butterflies.

A group of mothers got together and showed it to a bunch of us kids at the Club - I'll never forget it. It was an occasion of much hilarity and we all got into trouble. It was so worth it though!
