The impending threat of a government shutdown over defunding Obamacare is causing much angst and anger in Washington, and with the deadline less than two weeks away, the desperation on both sides is reaching a fever pitch. On CNN Saturday, contributor John Avlon clashed with conservative radio host Alice Stewart over the defunding plan, arguing that the Republicans are trying to “exort the president” at this point.

1. There's a desperate need for a new law that would deter outright lying to the public.

If there is a government shutdown, it won't be at the hands of Obama. A government shutdown will be strictly due to the Republicans trying to extort the president/Democratic legislators in order to defund Obamacare in the upcoming spending bill.

According to the CNN/ORC poll presented in the video:

43% favor Obamacare
35% oppose (too liberal)
16% oppose (not liberal enough)

The fact that Republicans can still get elected is the result of how grossly misinformed the public is already. It's unconscionable that they are allowed to lie to viewers who are seeking information like Alice Stewart did in this video.
