Related: About this forumWhy This Company Wants You in Prison
It has something to do with the $1.7 billion they made off the privatized incarceration industry just last year.
CCA has become a dirty word.
Kanye West cited it when rapping about Americas class of New Slaves. Anonymous invoked it to describe a bad financial investment that undermines justice. And for state after state, the word represents a failed approach to public safety.
And thats how it should be. Because profiting off mass incarceration is a dirty business. When private prison company Corrections Corporation of Americaor CCAsquanders taxpayer money and runs facilities rife with human rights abuses, its dragging its own name through the mud.

(3,688 posts)Corporations are about profits. That means they want more prisoners. Don't forget the "mental health" for profit corporations as well. Another booming profitable industry.

(31,153 posts)the video states it isn't really about identifying/deporting illegal immigrants but a way in which to fill more cells.
This isn't the first instance of judicial and legislation corruption regarding for-profit prisons -- it's well documented in other states.
What scares me is the propensity that more and more corrupt officials -- judges and police -- will be looking to fill quotas in return for favors, political or other. I see violations of civil rights, and stiffer and more unjust state laws, to make the process easier too.
