How is this not unconstitutional "cruel and unusual punishment" of the mother? And the baby was not convicted of anything. The mother and the baby were endangered and assaulted by a medically unnecessary induced birth (thereby requiring an episiotomy) to fit the prison's schedule rather than the natural labor process. And then the mom and baby could not bond, let alone breast feed, because the mom was shackled to the bed. She could only look at her baby for 24 hours before being sent back to prison in shackles without the baby. That really is horrific.
