1. This was really interesting to me.

Having been married to a Narcissist (a big fat liar), it confirmed much of what I'd thought I had already learned - the hard way. I really hate liars. White lies, I'm good with. Admittedly, we all do that. But the ones who are lying to get something - salespeople included, I detest!!

5. As most people know, 'Do Not Call' is no protection against so-called charities.

The other day I got a call from a woman claiming to be with a women's health organization; she started out in a loud, fast way so I started interrupting her to say she was digging a dry well. She didn't pause for a second until I finally yelled "WHOA! Back up here!" "What?" she asked. I said her time would be better spent elsewhere because I never donate to phone callers and she'd better remove my name from her list before I start raising hell. She said okay, she'd do so immediately..."BUT MEANWHILE BLAH BLAH BLAH-" Finally I just slammed the phone down. I used to keep a dog whistle by the phone for people who refused to go away nicely. They really hate it when you blast THEIR eardrums.

Unfortunately most telemarketers now have a volume suppressor on their system that prevents them from hearing loud sounds.

But it sure feels good doing it!

12. Sorry to hear that. Maybe it had something to do with her virtual shouting at me.

At least, they can't ignore a hangup! Occasionally I interrupt and talk over them until they give up, or if the mood strikes, I lay the receiver down very quietly and tiptoe away. No data on how long it takes them to catch on and hang up.

Still, I don't get bothered too often, at least from commercial telemarketers. Wonder if it's partly due to the call waiting function - at least at one time, they didn't want to reveal their own # and would automatically disconnect if they reached a machine with call waiting.

2. Many TED Sessions Appear To Be Self-Aggrandizing Videos To Promote Merchandise and Services.
Fri Nov 15, 2013, 02:50 AM
Nov 2013

I've broken from TED, having been someone who started watching their videos early on, before all of the TED hype occurred.

For me, it seemed to drift from educational videos of new business models and practices to just another vehicle to promote one's achievements, for sell videos, training seminar and books - akin to being hucksters.

===

The icing on the cake was when the TED folks squashed a Global Warming session because it was too 'political'.

It kind of makes me wonder what other projects are squashed in their infancy that we never hear of.

You poop on Pamela Meyer, but have a first-hand excuse, in your opinion.

You figure that pooping on TED includes pooping on everything available through TED, including everyone who contributes to TED. So you feel justified in sending this off-topic/red-herring message.

I was making a causal comment about TED, in general.

I was an early viewer and disseminated their videos to other colleagues, until they've lost their focus and began to filter the content that is presented in their sessions. They are not an open group, one that allows critical thought from varying camps to be presented. In the corporate arena, they've lost many of their viewers. Soon, they will lose complete focus, much like The History Channel and start showing Reality Podcasts.

There wasn't a personal attack against any one particular presenter, just that I stay away from them because most are just vehicles to sell other products and services. If you like Pamela, go for it. Your defensiveness shows something beyond a casual retort and hints of some type of emotional or personal involvement, projecting my comments as a personal attack on you.

from that with an agenda. You don't happen to know a good book on Star Reading, do you? From Billy Graham to 60 minutes to the Family Doctor every thing revolves around Agenda, better known as Money. We are very much alone.

6. She is informative AND selling her book/videos
Fri Nov 15, 2013, 09:01 AM
Nov 2013

Yes, she is selling something with this video, herself, her book, her videos.

But it does provide some basic education on lying.

I've listened to and read several people's truth spotting techniques. They each have their favorite methods and clues. She is good in this video. I found it annoying that she used so many Democrats as examples of liars when there are just bucket loads of RepubliCONS who lie so much better. Like Nixon, Ronnie Raygun (before he want crazy) and W.

I keep remembering something a truth spotter told me once. If a person is telling the truth, you will feel their pain. He was saying that when a person is reciting an event, and their body language and emotions are true, you will almost automatically feel what they are feeling. That is the dead give away. Like crying with that mother who really lost her child

So if you want to be believed, show the emotions you are feeling. If you want to lie, fake those emotions...if you can.

8. That was the main reason I posted this Ted Talk. We are confronted by the Cons lying continually

on a daily basis. I thought it would be good to have some knowledge of the basics spotting a liar. Course Cons do make it on the average easy.

14. That's the key to acting.

The other is know your lines, hit your mark, look the other guy in the eye and tell the truth. Any good acting coach will tell you that the hardest thing to teach people about acting is how easy and simple it is. If a director can make actors stop acting, he/she's home free. And it's the hardest thing in the world to accomplish.

I've dabbled in all 3. The top salesman I ever knew kept a mirror on his desk to watch himself when he was on the phone; not for ego reasons, but to remind himself to really smile. You can learn to fake sincerity, but you can't fake a smile on your face unless you put one there, and it's absolutely key to verbally communicating sincerity. Well, of a friendly sort, that is!

When Ms. Meyer got to the segment on visual cues and the head saying no while the mouth said yes I felt that all my observations had been confirmed.

Anybody ever observe this blood-soaked war criminal when she talked? CONTINUOUS head shaking. This was always a dead giveaway to me.

15. Once I heard an interview with the great Dizzy Gillespie

wherein he was asked what things he had learned traveling the world in the music business. He replied: "It gave me an excellent bullshit detector."

We all would benefit following Diz's example. We need a good bullshit detector.

Them's my 2 cents.
