Giving a wino some food might be a laudable thing, but most of them will try to trade part of that food for alcohol if they can. Neither Cenk nor Stossel has ever seen an alcoholic having alcoholic seizures when he's gone too long without a drink or going into DTs when it's really been a long time between drinks. Untreated DTs are 50% fatal, and most DTs happening to street people remain untreated unless they have them publicly enough to be picked up.

I give them cash. I don't infantilize them by telling them what to buy with it. Either they'll make enough for some clean socks and a good meal plus a bottle, or they'll have a bad day and barely scrape together enough for a bottle.

Fortunately enough people agree with me that they're not dropping like flies out there.

Oh, and by the way, ENABLING is trying to take their choices away. Anyone who's ever known an alcoholic well knows that's like a red rag to a bull. If you try to force sobriety, that's just one more reason for them to drink.

Last year a guy came right out and said he was and alcoholic and that he had the DTs. He said if he didn't get money for a bottle he was going to end up at the VA hospital. I gave him money.

I give more money to people holding the sign that signs, "I am not going to lie, I am going to use this money to buy beer" I know more about where my money is going with that person than what the Government does with it.

And one more point. Wether a person in need buys a beer, or a blanket with the money. He/She is not hoarding it in an offshore account, it goes back into the system and in most cases ends up in the hands of some wealthy dick like John that stoes it in an Offshore account. So what the difference I use my money to buy myself a beer or I give it to someone else who uses it to buy a beer. It all ends up in the same place. I would rather it helped a needy person get a beer at least once before The likes of John Stossel gets its, and shoves it in a numbered offshore account.

In the 80's when he did a piece saying world overpopulation was a scam. I was active in the Mormon church at the time and that was the church's stand. So I knew it was Conservativitism.
