Related: About this forumI once heard someone said this speech should be put on continuous loop in the front of
Congress as well as members homes.
My wife suggested it should be played in front of every big chain store/fast food place as well as the corporate offices AND the CEOs' houses ( all of them)
until they start lobbying congress to raise the min wage OR better yet do it themselves.
IF your value meal cost More than your employees hourly wage there is something wrong here.

(6,699 posts)That message, along with the 1950's, are long gone and just a memory in the USA of today. It's ALL about the bottom line. Fook the worker! Profits make higher dividends; hence, everyone is happy...except the worker.
A sad day, but it's reality.

(1,464 posts)Unfortunately that's how it is today.
Utilitarianism has morphed from the greatest good to the greatest number to the greatest good for the people that matter.
Until we can convince poor people to vote, meaningful change is impossible. Until then, campaign contributions will matter more than votes will.

(4,695 posts)Last year, A Christmas Carol, was not shown. Guess they are both being thrown away just like the working class by the 1% Banksters and corporate owners of media; ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX NOISE.

(38,365 posts)Because 20 years ago, or whenever it was shown endlessly, it was public domain..free to show for any station. The music was copyrighted.. The film was not. So it played for free. So in order to get possession of the film, the people that owned or had gained rights to the music, sued in court, and said they also had rights to the entire film. Those assholes won, and it is now on rarely. Perhaps the one percent was responsible, I don't know. But it is on occasionally, and those people get paid, but the days when everyone saw and and knew the important scenes I think are gone. Especially, those under 30, I don't think they many even know who Frank Capra was, or even Jimmie Stewart.
