TORONTO (JTA) — Canada’s largest Protestant church launched a campaign to boycott goods made in the West Bank.

The United Church of Canada campaign, dubbed “Unsettling Goods: Choose Peace in Palestine and Israel,” encourages “economic action” against three Israeli companies: Keter Plastic Ltd., SodaStream (my emphasis /JC) and Ahava, which all have factories in the West Bank.

“With these efforts, we join with many others striving to bring peace with justice to the Holy Land,” the church’s moderator, Gary Paterson, wrote in a November letter to church members announcing the launch of the campaign.

Churchgoers are also urged to avoid retailers carrying the products, such as Canadian Tire, The Bay, Home Depot and Walmart.

Sodastream's principal manufacturing facility is located in Mishor Adumim - the industrial area of the West Bank settlement of Maale Adumim. This factory employs some 900 Palestinians from the Palestinian Authority, who live in an arc stretching from Jericho to Ramallah; the other half of the employees are Palestinian residents of East Jerusalem.

Tell SodaStream there is nothing friendly about occupation!

Why boycott:
SodaStream markets itself as an environmentally friendly product to “Turn Water Into Fresh Sparkling Water And Soda”… but there is nothing friendly about the destruction of Palestinian life, land and water resources!

SodaStream is an Israeli corporation that produces all of its carbonation devices in an illegal settlement in the West Bank. All Israeli settlements exist in direct contravention to international law! This settlement company obscures its true illegal origin by marking its products “Made in Israel”, however “made in an illegal Israeli settlement” is more like it.
